Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Port Medic.
Red Dog Mine, located in NW Alaska, is a large, technically challenging open pit mine, mill and port facility. It is a remote, but modern and well-equipped fly-in fly-out operation that provides free room and board for employees, and regular transportation to and from Anchorage and surrounding regional villages.
Rotation Schedule will be 2 weeks onsite and 2 week offsite.
Reporting to the Port Operations Coordinator, the Port Medic is responsible for providing emergency response, for fire, medical, and spill, at the Port Site, and also provides mutual aid to the Mine Site when requested to do so.
Responsibilities:
Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Provide emergency response at the Port Site Operations in the areas of first aid, firefighting, and spill response, and acts in the capacity of the Initial Onsite Incident Commander until relieved by a higher authority
Conduct fire extinguisher inspections, spill response equipment checks, general safety inspections and pre-fire planning on a monthly basis. Assist the Fire Systems Servicepersons with inspection, maintenance, and testing of fire alarm, and fire sprinkler systems
Conduct MSHA (annual refresher, new hire, and site specific training), firefighting, spill response, and medical training, as well as maintaining all training and inspection records
Assist with Hazwoper, and confined space training, that takes place at the port operations
Assist fall arrest trainers and be responsible for the inspection and maintenance of Fall Arrest equipment kept at the port
Work with the Fire Chief, and Spill Chief in the development of port site, fire department, medical and spill response training manuals, and operating procedures, as well as conducting MSHA site specific, hazard recognition, and task training
Maintain records of, and administers audiograms, collect blood lead and cadmium samples from port employees, through the direction of the mine site Physician Assistant. Also collect samples for drug and alcohol screens, when requested by the Safety & Health Coordinator.
Provide administrative services for Port management
Ensure that the port ambulance, fire engine and fire / ambulance bay is maintained in a standard acceptable to the Fire Chief, and maintains the port clinic in a standard acceptable to the mine site Physician’s Assistant
Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old and have a High School Diploma (or equivalency)
Must have an Alaska certification on Emergency Medical Technician III
Must possess an Alaska Driver’s License
Must have a minimum of 5 years Firefighter experience
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs
Must have strong communication skills
Must have the ability to work well with others and have a professional demeanor
Will be required to obtain a Fire Extinguisher Level II Certification– to inspect fire extinguisher annually
Will be required to obtain TWIC Certification and security awareness training
