Nurse-midwife and SBA trainer (3 experts)

We are a consultancy organisation providing technical and management expertise in the health and social sectors to governments and international development partners to transform the health of women and children. We provide information, expertise and influence to governments, health workers, NGOs and businesses to catalyse change so that health services can be accessed by the people who need them most.

From September 2016 for up to 5 months.

We are seeking two medical specialists in obstetrics and gynaecology to enhance the clinical and managerial skills:
at the CEONC level for medical doctors in general practice (MDGP), OBGYNs, medical doctors, ASBAs and other relevant support team members (anaesthesia assistants, operating theatre nurses) at district and regional hospital hospitals
at the BEONC level/PHCCs for nurse-midwives and SBA trainers who will support long-term clinical mentors to develop the capacity of the district hospital team, as well as below the district level, especially for the critical skills that are difficult for the clinical mentor in some cases.

Responsibilities
The experts shall collaborate with the FHD, DHO, NHTC and the training site, preferably from the respective region, and will travel on demand to the health facilities, where they will cooperate with counterparts.
Conduct capacity assessments and set up work plans for capacity enhancement for CEONC service delivery
Identify success factors and supportive mechanisms for sustained improvement of clinical and managerial skills, documenting experiences and lessons learnt
Train medical doctors (MDGPs/OBGYNs), ASBAs and other relevant support team members (anaesthesia assistants, operating theatre nurses) in the assigned health facilities in the performance of comprehensive emergency obstetric and neonatal care including relevant clinical and technical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, caesarean sections, other required surgeries or techniques, and basic post-surgical care through mentoring and on-the-job training
Provide training in clinical management (including, e.g., good hygiene and infection control, drug and supply management on the ward, documentation, interdepartmental collaboration)
Enhance the skills of selected SBAs, ASBAs and OBGYNs in major emergency obstetric care as future mentors and supervising their initial work as mentors at the district level and below

Person specification
Master’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing/midwifery
Qualified SBA trainer
Minimum of five years, preferably seven years of proven practical clinical working experience in maternity, including work in the health system
Proven experience of at least five years as a clinical trainer for SBAs, to work in collaboration with the NHTC and training site preferably from respective region
Fluent in spoken and written Nepali
Fluent in spoken and written English
