Job Description:
Aspen Medical is seeking experienced Senior Medical Officers (SMO) to provide primary health care services, occupational health and emergency response requirements, to a client in Papua New Guinea (PNG). This is a full time, fixed term position commencing ASAP and ending June 2022 (with the possibility of extension).
Primary duties and responsibilities:
Medical Care
Respond to any medical emergencies on the worksite or upon the patient's admission to the clinic
Provide consultations for pathology, prescription of treatments and monitor progress, and references for specialist consultation
Be able to provide minor surgical care and follow-up
Implementation and checking chemoprophylaxis
Psychological support to personnel
Accountability for equipment and medicines/consumables stock
Communicate with Higher Executive Officer/Nurse/National Doctor when a patient is admitted to the clinic
Manage any medical evacuations, according to the first phase medical evacuation plan and liaise with the assistance centre for technical support and implementation of the second phase of the medical evacuation as per the medical emergency response plan.
General
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) on site
Perform regular inspections of the food chain, the living quarters and their outbuildings, water quality, waste management and general catering
Participate in the health education of personnel
Attend regular health safety environment (HSE) meetings
Management of the medical team, ensuring its quality, cohesion, continuous training and efficiency.
Experience, qualifications and documentation required:
Current curriculum vitae (CV)
Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery degree or an Australian/Overseas equivalent
Current unrestricted registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), or overseas equivalent
Five (5) years' as a Medical Practitioner, with remote, primary, occupational and emergency care experience
Evidence of successful completion of Emergency Management of Severe Trauma (EMST), Advanced Life Support, Emergency Trauma Medical Course (ETMC) or Remote Emergency Skills Training (REST) within the last 4 years, or equivalent
Demonstrated experience in healthcare management and clinical governance, including supervision and training of clinical staff
Current professional indemnity insurance
Two professional references from Medical Practitioners who can attest to your recent clinical experience (link to template provided)
Proof of identity - certified copy
Due to the international location of the work, you may be required to complete mandatory hotel isolation upon arrival in PNG, and when returning to your home location. The required work effort once onsite is 5-6 weeks.
