Job Description

The Physician will utilize expertise to mitigate and treat injuries and illnesses to ensure proper injury care and disease diagnosis, treatment and recovery, request necessary tests and follow-up visits and refer patients to specialists as necessary. The Physician will coordinate medical referrals, coordinate admission, monitor and arrange final disposition. In addition, will require stabilization of patient and coordination of evacuation of patient to local care center or to regional medevac center.

Qualifications

Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Physician, preferably in a remote site.
Experience in either family medicine, internal medicine, or emergency medicine.
ACLS and BLS
Licensed in good standing in country of record
On call requirements as part of a rotation
Ability to obtain and maintain a clearance to drive company vehicles
Must be able to read, write and speak English to effectively communicate

Additional Information

Provide high quality care for patients based on their history, appropriate physical exam, available laboratory, imaging tests, and formulary for treatment of acute conditions, including appropriate lifesaving procedures;
Perform contracted physicals, exams and medical care to high standard free of bias and to the required standard
Conduct regular rounds on patients, initiate case discussions, monitor and document patient progress with any changes in management and prognosis and ensure adequate handover or transfer to wards
Be willing to move to different locations around Afghanistan as needed and understand that no position is to be considered permanent
Advise if further testing and/or advanced care is required and initiate the referral process
Initiate regular case discussions as part of hands-on training
Identify gaps in staff training and provide didactic and/or hands on training to staff as needed
Advocate to supervisors for other necessary training such as infection prevention and control (IPC), BLS/ACLS/ATLS, rational drug use, nursing care, etc.
Utilize given data collection tools and provide training to other staff as needed
Collect and analyze medical service data to adjust project objectives and activities as needed
Complete standardized internal reporting as requested by Regional Management Team
Work with Nursing Staff and In-theatre logistics to ensure regular and adequate drug and medical supplies in order to avoid stock outs and all instruments and equipment are in working order Represent and actively participate in coordination meetings and other relevant meetings as requested
Adhere to Code of Conduct and etihics policies at all times
Any other relevant duties as requested by Site Health Manager or Regional Management Team

Participates with the preparation of patients for medical evacuation within and outside of Afghanistan
Participates and advises on Mass Casualty Drills, assisting with the managing of day to day activities and prioritizing tasks
Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicates issues, obtains approvals, resolves problems and maintains specific levels of knowledge pertaining to new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements
