Paramedic Emergency Medical Team (EMT)

Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:

This position will support International Medical Corp’s Emergency Response delivering outpatient clinical care to disaster effected populations.

The primary responsibility of the Paramedic is to support the implementation of services in an emergency setting. The Paramedic will provide medical services in an outpatient health care setting. He/she will be responsible for providing client counseling and direct care including adult, adolescent and pediatric health services for both chronic and acute conditions. He/she is expected to triage patients, ensure smooth patient flow, provide clinical
nursing care, assist with referrals as needed and provide health education and hygiene promotion. In addition, he/she may also be requested to assist hospital staff as needed.

**NOTE** Candidates applying to this position are indicating that they are interested in being considered for the International Medical Corps standby roster for emergency response. Roster members will only be contacted when there is an emergency response need for which the responder is qualified for. This position will not be compensated unless responders are deployed to an emergency response.

Main Responsibilities:  
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation. The tasks listed are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Performs complete patient assessments, re-assessments and possible specialized life support procedures, including interpret electrocardiograms (EKGs), administering orally and intravenously, controlling hemorrhage,
Observes conditions of patients during treatment and, based on judgement and experience, adjusts techniques or procedures as necessary to produce a positive response.
Applies splints and dressings as required
Performs first aid procedures to relieve patient’s pain and suffering to increase maximum care and comfort.
Prepares detailed records of patient’s physical condition and a complete medical report for the medical team lead.
Complete standardized internal reporting as requested by Medical Team Lead or Team Leader
Alert Team Lead in a timely manner if there are any impending shortages of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies to avoid stockouts. Assist in evaluating all instruments and equipment are in working order.
Adhere to Code of Conduct and PSEA policies at all times
Ensure that patients are accurately registered and recorded for reporting and case management.
Track daily patient data using tally sheets or other tools provided and submit patient data as required
Monitor diagnostic trends and report to supervisor as needed
Collect and analyze project / service data to inform and adjust project objectives/plans, strategic choices and quality of care / Shelter Medical Team in collaboration with IMC team members, local partners and other relevant staff
Work with program staff, nurses and auxiliary staff (eg CHWs) to provide both didactic and on-the-job training to build capacity and enhance their skills
Track daily patient data using tally sheets or other tools provided
Collaborate with other departments as needed to ensure smooth implementation and integration of services
Adhere to administrative directives with regards to work schedules, record keeping, patient communications, re-stocking of essential drugs, consumables and other medical supplies

Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS

Must be a Paramedic with a valid license to practice, with 3-5 years of experience, of which 1-2 years should be of developing country experience or in low-resource settings or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in overseas programs relating to primary health care, maternal and child health, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS preferable
Previous NGO experience preferable
Must have excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a dynamic, high pressure environment
Must have excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
Must have excellent self-motivation skills.
Must have the ability to exercise sound judgment and excellent decision making skills.
Must be extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations
Must be able to work effectively with various personalities and cultures
Must have the ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively.
Must be able to work with limited resources.
Must be able to deploy to emergencies on short notice
In addition to the responsibilities referenced above, candidates can expect to be living and working in austere conditions. Lifting moderately heavy objects from the ground, carrying a backpack for extended periods of time, and walking or hiking in remote locations may be necessary to perform these functions.
