Employer: Save the Children UK
Location: Internationally Mobile
Closing date: 01 Nov 2017

This role does not require the right to work in the UK

We are looking for a Nurse for our external roster to manage the daily nursing activities of one of the mobile teams. This will involve either support to emergency primary health care, acute watery diarrhoea or mass vaccination and can include additional surge capacity to other emergency health responses.

Save the Children’s origins lie in emergency response. The Emergency Health Unit (EHU) is an operational team deployed to support the Save the Children Humanitarian Health, Nutrition, HIV and WASH Strategy in providing and improving humanitarian responses. The EHU holds a pre-standing emergency health capacity to deploy in the event of a major disaster, diseases outbreak or conflict that affects population health and they will be set up within 72 hours of the disaster or identified emergency.

Save the Children’s Emergency Health Unit is currently enlisting candidates for their humanitarian emergency roster to safeguard strong external health and operational support surge capacity when our emergency responses require it. As a member of our roster you will only be deployed when gaps are identified in our responses and depending on the nature of the response you may be asked to deploy at short notice, often to insecure environments.

To become part of the external roster as a Nurse you will be a Registered Nurse and be qualified from recognised centre. You will also have experience in primary health care, general practice and medical nursing and experience in dispensing and vaccination. In addition you will have:
Strong experience of humanitarian healthcare with experience of setting up large scale emergency health programmes from scratch
Experience of managing primary health teams and health projects
Experience of working in a district hospital overseas working on management and clinical care
Good experience working in insecure environments
Ability to work in and maintain a positive team dynamic in insecure environment.

The roster does not automatically translate to a paid role as it is dependent on the scale of our response and the availability of the roster members. Deployments with Save the Children are paid, unless specifically identified as a volunteer role.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.
