Midwife, Nurses Trainer , Africa

The Role
A certified midwife-nurses trainer is needed to lead in the implementation of health projects in Grand Bassa County, Liberia in the post-Ebola context. The program and the role will focus on maternal health care. The post holder will be working closely with the county health team and other local stakeholders.


Tasks and Responsibilities:  
Provide leadership and hands-on training to midwives and nurses;
In consultation and in line with ministry of health policies in Liberia, develop a training curriculum for the training of midwives and nurses at the program sites and also in the county;
Facilitate midwives and nurses training in BEmONC and CEmONC;
Conduct classes for groups of patients and families to provide information concerning pregnancy, childbirth and family orientation;
Support the establishment of the Zondo clinic maternity services. This will include assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation of maternity care while ensuring that procedures are in place and are adhered to;
Facilitate the professional and clinical development of the individual members working within the core/community team as well as ensuring that the resources and skills of all members of the team are used to optimal effect;
Work collaboratively within the multi-agency and multi-disciplinary team to ensure a high quality service;
Undertaking research related to midwifery and community nursing;
Utilize the full skills of a midwife as laid down in the WHO’s definition of a midwife;
Develop and facilitate a conducive environment for all learners thereby fulfilling the mentorship and preceptorship roles;
Ensure high quality of maternal health services at all project sites.


Requirements
Possess the education, training, credentials and licenses necessary to secure a license to practice midwifery from the Liberian Board of Nursing and Midwifery. Must be currently licensed as a midwife or nurse/midwife;
Must be a registered midwife and familiar with standards, practices and procedures in the MHC field;
Possess more than 5 years of experience practicing midwifery and providing training to nurses and midwives;
Bachelor’s degree required. MSc in MHC/community health a plus;
Demonstration of comprehensive and relevant experience in training of midwives and nurses;
Ability to coach and mentor;
Good communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written);
Awareness of current issues in the health care sector in Grand Bassa County and in Liberia;
Demonstrate excellent leadership/managerial skills to ensure a dynamic and innovative approach to team building/performance, and provide a visible and accessible presence to which patients and their families can turn to for advice, assistance and support.

Safety and Security
While the risks of Ebola Virus Disease are now minimal within Liberia, there is still some level of risk associated with healthcare settings. At any point the position holder or AmeriCares has the option to end the assignment should the situation deem it necessary.


The individual that assumes this role should have a clear understanding of and be able to follow strict personal protection, security and hygiene best practices.
