Background:
The Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in Liberia devastated the country’s already weak health system – forcing closure of health facilities and limiting access to the most basic care and life-saving emergency services, such as obstetric and new born care. The return to service delivery at health facilities has been gradual, and many facilities remain under-equipped to treat life-threatening emergencies due to lack of equipment and supplies and infrequent in-service training which was neglected when the entire focus of the health system shifted to the fight against EVD. Many facilities are unprepared to respond to the special health issues of the EVD survivors.
In order to contribute to the restoration of healthcare services in Liberia, IMC plans to implement a Program which will support four Hospitals (Phebe, CB Dunbar, GW Harley and Ganta) for Life-Saving Emergency Services (including EmONC-Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care, and other emergencies- severe malaria, acute respiratory distress, acute dehydration), as well as provide support to one hospital (Phebe) for Medical Care of EVD Survivors.
Job Summary:
The Emergency Services Trainer is primarily responsible for leading the training component of this program in respect to common life threatening emergencies including severe malaria, acute respiratory distress, and acute dehydration. She/He will also support other trainings related to EmONC services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• She/He will be required to Work in collaboration with IMC’s program Training unit to ensure that program activities related to training on emergency care are duly implemented according to the approved work plans.
• Develop and share communication materials regarding the training program (e.g. course dates, logistical information, and who are the targets for the training) and effectively share through all relevant forums.
• Ensure that there are clear criteria for enrollment of participants for the training in collaboration with the authorities of targeted hospitals.
• Ensure that training standards are adhered to in all aspects of training.
• Liaise with partners such as MOH and WHO, UNFPA, UNICEF, JHPIEGO, for technical input to training.
• Help develop tools to assess participant learning in both the theory and practicum components.
• Work with field teams to develop evaluation tools for continuous monitoring of training program.
• Ensure that training materials are updated and revised based upon feedback from participants.
• Prepare periodic training reports, monthly field reports and ensure appropriate follow up and decision making on data relevant to the organization. Provide accurate regular reports, document results and maintain detailed records of the training component of the project.
• Serve as the liaison with the relevant MoH, UNFPA and WHO departments on matters related to the training program to ensure accountability.

Qualifications:
• Minimum of masters in nursing or medical degree with a Master’s in Public Health preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in overseas humanitarian programs (preferably in developing country or low-resource setting with an NGO) at a senior level relating to infectious diseases, secondary health care, maternal and child health, communicable diseases, or equivalent experience.
• Skills and knowledge in competency-based training.
• Proven capabilities in leadership.
• Excellent communications skills. Fluency in English, spoken and written.
• Must have excellent self-motivation skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
• Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations.
• Ability to relate to and motivate staff effectively.
• Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources.
• Ability to multi-task
