Site Paramedics

Site Paramedics – two open full-time positions
Schedules: 2 or 3 week long rotations.
Locations: Mining exploration camps in the Canadian Arctic (Nunavut region).
Departure: From Mirabel Airport, approx. 30 min North of Montreal City by chartered flight to go on site.
Project Dates:
  • 1st position: start date is April 22nd, 2015.
  • 2nd position: stat date is May 4th, 2015.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Currently certified as a paramedic in Canada (PCP, ACP, CCP, etc.)
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in prehospital emergency care and trauma experience
  • Current BLS, CPR and PHTLS certifications
  • Strong assessment skills
  • Bilingual written and oral
  • Team Player
  • Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive background check and fit for duty exam.
  • Proficiency in use of computers and applications such as MS Word and Excel
  • Experience working in remote camps / work sites in northern communities an asset
  • Experience with air evacuation an asset

Sirius is a Canadian company that specializes in medical support services for remote areas and in wilderness safety training programs. Sirius is an experienced provider of medical support services for remote work sites and wilderness operations. Our services include medical personnel, equipment, logistics, training and much more.
Over the past 25 years, Sirius has also become the largest provider of wilderness first aid and wilderness safety training in Canada. We are dedicated to delivering medical support and training for organizations and people who live and work in remote environments.

Working Conditions

The MSP must be willing to work 12 hours per shift and be on call 24 hours a day. The project requires that all staff work as a team to ensure that schedules are met and a safe work environment is maintained. Every team member may be asked to perform duties not specifically identified in their primary position description. All staff members are expected to work to the highest safety standards. Work schedules and transportation are subject to delay and change due to weather conditions. Telephone, Internet and computer access available at all sites. Each new employee is trained by our team prior to departure and upon arrival on site. Medical, administrative and technical assistance is available for employees 24 hours per day to handle emergencies.

Remuneration

  • Competitive salary, to be discussed based on project and experience
  • Employees are paid for 12 hours per day, 7 days per week for the entire duration of their rotation
  • Travel days and standby days are also remunerated
  • Payments are made bi-weekly by direct deposit
  • Two or three week rotation schedules are available
  • Possibility of continuing education
  • Transportation, meals and lodging provided for the duration of the project
  • All medical equipment and supplies are provided

Job Responsibilities and Duties

The MSP reports to the site manager and Sirius management team. In an emergency situation, the MSP takes directives from our team of physicians and competent local medical authorities as needed, or proceeds according to standard emergency medical practices and our wilderness protocols. The MSP should be able to:
  • Respond to all medical problems and emergencies
  • Carry out physician orders in respect to patient care if required
  • Assist in arranging emergency medical evacuations, as needed
  • Coordinate with local health officials in the event of a medical evacuation
  • Maintain records of accidents, illness and injuries including recommendations for measures to avoid illness and injuries
  • Ensure privacy for patients and confidentiality of personal information
  • Participate in camp health and safety committee and project management team
  • Assist the health and safety officer or Site Operations Manager in maintaining the health and safety plan and in keeping workers in good health
  • Assist in the maintenance of emergency plans
  • Supervise the inventory, ordering, receiving and stocking of medical equipment and supplies of the first aid station
  • Submit patient care reports to the company
  • Complete forms, documentation and reports as required by the relevant workers’ compensation board
  • Maintain a daily log of activities and patient care
  • Complete the camp opening, infirmary setup and camp closing activities as applicable
