Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work:
PROGRAM BACKGROUND

International Medical Corps has been providing emergency services to refugees in Maban County since early June 2012, mainly providing gap filling in health services provision in Yusuf Batil Camp and starting from July, IMC has been providing health care in the newly established Gendrasa camp, where refugees are being relocated to from Jamam camp which has been found to be flood prone. During the past months, the morbidity trends have indicated high proportion of acute watery diarrhoea cases in all the camps with numbers of bloody diarrhoea cases also indicating to be on the higher side, with a few cases of Shigella confirmed and some suspected cholera cases. As part of health response in Maban, the International Medical Corps is preparing a 50-bed cholera treatment unit (CTU) and pre-positioning stocks as preparedness for possible diarrhoeal diseases outbreak. This will also serve as an isolation unit in case of other possible epidemics.

JOB SUMMARY
The primary function of Emergency Response Nurse is to assist the Public Health Officer in ensuring standard practices are in place in the supported facilities including standard practice, universal precaution, community disease surveillance, prevention and responding to communicable diseases both in health facilities and the community. He/she contributes to ensuring communicable diseases prevention and response are integrated into the daily practice at facility and community level in refugees camp where IMC is working in Maban Count, South Sudan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES:
• Provide direct patient care in diagnostic and treatment in emergency primary healthcare
• Identify the training needs of national clinical staff, community health workers/volunteers, train them and supervise on daily basis.
• Monitor and supervise the quality of health care delivery by the national staff and community health workers and where necessary provide guidance, coaching and on the job training to improve the quality of service delivery.
• Ensure that patient’s records are up to date and are accurately registered and recorded for reporting and case management.
• Oversee clinic staff and management of the clinics, wards and health posts to ensure standard practices are observed and adhered to include universal precaution and infection control.
• Monitor and supervise rational use of supplies and drugs
• Maintain equipment in good condition and submit regular inventory reports of the same
• Teach basic sanitation and public health; theory of disease causation; treatment and prevention; disease diagnosis and drug treatment of common diseases; community nutrition; techniques for the identification of the malnourished children, treatment and growth monitoring, MCH and ANC.
• Compile and submit weekly HIS and surveillance reports
• Conduct health assessments as appropriate, compile findings and provide suggestions to address un met needs where necessary


Qualifications:
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

Diploma, degree and current license; preferably with a Master’s in Public Health.
Experience in overseas programs relating to primary health care, communicable diseases; experience in maternal and child health, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS is useful.
Minimum of 3 years of experience required, of which 1 year should be of developing country experience or experience in any resource deprived environment.
Previous NGO experience is desirable.
Will have excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
Experience in responding to major outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, Shigella, meningitis, or measles preferred.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations.
Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively.
Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources.
