International Medical Corps provides safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable and patient centered care; offers needs-based response according to the context and type of sudden onset disaster (SOD) and/or outbreak in the affected nation; adopts a human rights-based approach to its response; ensures it is accessible to all sections of the population affected by the SOD and/or outbreak, particularly the vulnerable; and treats patients in a medically ethical manner.

International Medical Corps is accountable to patients and communities, host governments and ministries of health, and its organization and donors. International Medical Corps commits to a coordinated response under the national health emergency management authorities. International Medical Corps collaborates with the national health system, the clusters and the humanitarian community.

Selected personnel are on standby to deploy to a crisis within 48 hours. Personnel may deploy to new areas of operation or lend support to International Medical Corps teams already on the ground. International Medical Corps maintains a roster of volunteers and staff who have completed pre-deployment paperwork, orientation and training. The roster is updated on a regular basis. Through this expression of interest, applicants maintain professional profiles with International Medical Corps, so that information is complete and readily available for an emergency response deployment.

This position will support International Medical Corps’ emergency response delivering outpatient clinical care to disaster-affected populations.

**NOTE**

Roster members will be contacted only when there is an emergency-response need for which the responder is qualified. This position will not be compensated unless responders are deployed to an emergency response.
Job Description


JOB SUMMARY: 
 This position provides oversight to nursing staff including all, RN’s, LPN’s, nursing assistant staff, translators, and any other non-medical provider staff i.e. MD’s, DO’s, PA’s and NP’s) as well as the nursing care of patients during an emergency response.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation:

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Represent IMC in coordination meetings
• Ensure pharmaceutical supply chain by monitoring pharmaceutical use, stock and raising procurements liaising with Med Co and Pharmacist as required
• Support timely assessments, data management, proposal development and reporting
• Supervise nursing staff, nursing assistants and translators to ensure proper patient flow throughout the operation
• Ensure effective triage of patients via a complete understanding of the various triage systems used by the operation
• Proper use of established standard operating procedures
• Provide direct care to patients in the diagnosis and treatment in primary emergency health care when necessary
• Ensure that all the necessary items are supplied throughout the health facility
• Ensure the entire Nursing Staff is cognizant of infection control standard operating procedures
• Identifies educational needs of nurses and nursing assistants
• Monitors the delivery of healthcare to ensure patients have up-to-date patient cards
• Follows procedures concerning infection prevention and control supports nursing staff to follow infection prevention and control measures
• Gives treatment at the appropriate time as prescribed by the doctor
• Calls the doctor on duty if any medical problem arises
• Represent IMC in coordination meetings
• Assists with doctors with clinic rounds, records the necessary medical information
• Makes a detailed report at the end of the shift in the report book. Ensures that staff is trained to be sure that the patient registers and the patient intake forms are completed, that patients are properly banded or otherwise identified according to procedure
• Ensure that staff is trained to be that new patients are logged and all paperwork is completed by the nursing staff
• Attends and participates in the relevant clinical meetings provides meeting reports and recommended follow up actions as required
• Assures and if required assists with patient stabilization and transfer as needed ensuring all information is gathered according to procedure
• Ensure the isolation tent has the proper PPE to address communicable diseases and ensure proper notification throughout the facility once a patient is sent to OBGYN, Isolation, or the Emergency Department
• Assigns and supervises IPC nurse
• Support and assign support throughout clinical activities where there are gaps and delays
• If adverse event occurs, ensures proper communication, documentation and corrective action is executed as required

General
• Deployed personnel are expected to assist with the setup, maintenance and demobilization of the clinical spaces and base camp as required.

• Actively promote PSEA (prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and among beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.
• Adhere to the Code of Conduct, maintain humanitarian principles and respect international humanitarian law at all times.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Typically, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), MSN, MPH, or MPA. Master’s in Public Health preferable. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
• Registered Nurse with a valid nursing license to practice
• Any additional certification in healthcare administration will be considered an advantage
• Typically, 6+ years of relevant and progressive experience in Nursing, including minimum 3+ years of experience as Nurses’ Supervision or similar role, professional experience in Humanitarian Health Sector and in communicable disease prevention in clinical settings desirable of which at least 1 year should be of developing country experience or in low-resource settings
• Experience in overseas programs relating to primary health care, maternal and child health, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS and communicable disease prevention & control experience in clinic settings
• Previous NGO experience preferable
• In-depth knowledge of hospital and clinic procedures
• Outstanding patient management skills
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Great organizational, time management and supervisory skills
• Problem solver with a positive attitude
• Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources likewise capable of working in zones with complex security issues

Additional Technical or Language Requirements
In addition to the responsibilities referenced above, candidates can expect to be living and working in austere conditions. Lifting moderately heavy objects from the ground, carrying a backpack for extended periods of time, and walking or hiking in remote locations may be necessary to perform these functions. International Medical Corps is a first responder to natural and man-made disasters and has a mandate of working in remote locations. The organization has a comprehensive security management policy and plan in place and is committed to doing everything possible within its remit to ensure safety and security. Notwithstanding, the mandate and programming choices of International Medical Corps require staff members who have a high degree of resilience, extremely decisive qualities and the ability to move fast.
