About the role
The Offshore Paramedic is the lead provider of primary and emergency health care services to the patients seen at Intl.SOS Medsite and oversees all aspects of clinical and medical management within the clinic for vessel employees, visitors and eligible contractors.
We are currently sourcing for a Full-time Paramedic to work a 21 day hitch (21 days on/ 21 days off),12 hour shifts and on call nights for emergencies for one of our Offshore vessels. Schedule is 6:00 am - 6:00 pm. Travel to and from the deployment port in Houma, LA is reimbursable. Candidates must have at least 1 year of previous offshore paramedic experience.
Key responsibilities
Patient Consultations
• Undertake clinical consultations and provide a high standard of service and care to patients attending the International SOS MedSite clinic.
• Provide Advanced Life Support level of emergency health care and Pre-Hospital High Level of Primary Health Care
• Undertake clinical consultations and provide a high standard of service and care to patients attending the clinic, including the conduct of various medical and surgical clinic procedures within scope of practice as per local regulations.
• Develop and ensure continuity of patient care and appropriate follow-up and referral.
• Assist with the implementation of preventative medical care strategies, including structuring and performing medical screening services.
• Manage the delivery of competent and professional health services according to the International SOS standards.
• Work with the MS Medical Directors to optimize quality assurance and ensure that appropriate medical outcomes are consistently attained with respect to the provision of clinic services.
• Assist with ensuring appropriate patient triage and flow within the clinic.
• Coordinate with the Topside Support the procedures required and preparation of patients to facilitate evacuation when required.
• Provide and document patient education as part of each clinical consultation.
• To work within and promote all International SOS’s policies, procedures and corporate values.
• Refer to the Medical Services Resource Centre (MSRC) for all procedures, tools and templates required to conduct the role of paramedic on site.
• Manage the delivery of competent and professional health services according to the International SOS standards.
• Assist with ensuring appropriate patient triage and flow within the clinic.
• Managing infectious disease outbreaks.
• Organization of medical referrals and coordination of offsite referrals in conjunction with the
• Ensure patient’s medical files and documentation is maintained to the highest standards and in accordance with International SOS standards for clinic services.
Management and Administration
• Create and maintain effective positive teamwork and clear channels of communication both internally and externally.
• Ensure that patient’s medical files and documentation are maintained to highest standards of patient confidentiality and in accordance with International SOS standards for clinic services.
• Assist in the maintenance, selection and control of the medical equipment and supplies available in the clinic when required.
• Actively participates in the client’s organized Emergency drills.
Additional Responsibilities as per the Scope of Work
Drug & alcohol testing
Be the signatory for pharmaceuticals and imported medical equipment & supplies
To be aware of Client procedures and standards related to case and project management, including work related case management and classification
Pro-actively & cost-effectively manage medication and consumables required for the Medsite.
Providing non accredited First Aid Training and health promotion talks as requested by the client.
Prepare a detailed handover report to his/her respective back to back Paramedic
Medical Quality
Responsible for overseeing the delivery of clinical education programs to all medical staff (national and expatriate) in the facility including; include, but is not limited to providing health education sessions, leading emergency drills, case discussion and case review preparation as part of the Clinical Governance meeting agenda.
Forms part of the clinical team responsible for preventative maintenance checks delegated to him/her to be conducted on site (e.g. ER trolley checklists, ambulance checklists, oxygen checklists, daily/weekly/monthly audits etc.)
Participate in the customer feedback system implemented in the facility by asking patients to provide feedback (minimum of 60% of patients seen each month).
All adverse incidents shall be immediately reported as per the Intl.SOS Adverse Incident Management Procedure and escalated to Medical Director Medical Services (for clinical incidents)
Work Clinic’s inventory stock management including controlled medications storage and dispensing.
Assist in the maintenance, selection and control of the medical equipment and supplies available in the clinic when requested or required.
Track and report data on clinic utilization and hygiene inspections by using the standard report templates through the use of Intl.SOS EMR system.
Together with the Medical Director, periodically self-audit the clinic standards and SOPs by using the self-audit tool and accordingly identify gaps if any and develop a plan of action with the support of the MS Medical and Regional Operations Directors in order to keep the clinic at the highest level possible and ready for the official clinic audit program that is coordinated by Houston MS Center.
Implement Infection Control best practices at the Medsite as per the related Intl.SOS procedures.
Required Skills and Knowledge
Completion of an accredited paramedic program
Required Competencies
Working knowledge of the principles of emergency and primary health care including the management of acute and chronic cardiac, respiratory, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, neurological, urological, surgical, psychological and special senses cases.
Formulation of therapeutic plans and health education for the management of hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, joint and back and psychological cases.
Advanced prehospital lifesaving invasive and non-invasive procedures including, but not limited to, the following: Clinical triage
Advanced air way management
Oxygen Therapy
Intravenous access and Fluid Therapy
Defibrillation and use of ventilator
Pneumothorax needle decompression
Care of traumatic cases including possible spinal and musculoskeletal limb injuries
Wound care including wound suturing and removal of stiches
Basic burn care
Working knowledge of the principles of infectious diseases management.
