Flight Paramedic - Somalia

Role summary:

The Flight Paramedic is an essential part of the multi-disciplined medical team, responsible for administering critical care to seriously ill and injured patients in flight. The purpose of the role is to Facilitate the operational readiness and performance of the Iqarus Role AMET team in support to the mission.

Duties and responsibilities:

Providing care related to critical care transportation and flight medicine.
Responsible for total patient care including but not limited to appropriate pre-flight assessment, packaging, loading, in flight care, unloading and hand over.
Assisting the physician with al inflight procedures and treatments including advanced airway interventions such as RSI.
Responsible for set up of patient monitoring and ongoing assessment with recognition of changes in the medical condition that might require emergency intervention.
Ensuring that ventilators, monitors and other types of medical equipment remain fully functional and flag any issues to the appropriate POC.
Administration medication and intravenous infusions in line with best clinical practice
Maintaining the patient’s clinical records per SOP;

Qualifications
• No less than three (3) months of paramedic training.
• A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible practical experience in CPR or basic life support.
• Certification in advanced trauma life support training or equivalent training certificate within 12 months prior to deployment.
• Aeromedical evacuation training and related qualifying experience are required.
• Experience in providing treatment under night flying conditions and with medical equipment compatible with NVG (Night Vision Goggles).
• English proficiency - a minimum of Level B2 is required.

Additional Information
Rotations are typically 8 weeks on duty and 8 weeks off duty, but dependent on the project. Flights, food and accommodation are provided whilst on duty at the project site.
