Trócaire works in partnership with District Health Boards (DHBs) and is supporting the District Health Board (DHB) of Garbaharey, Gedo, in the recruitment of a Medical officer to be stationed at Garbaharey Hospital. The Medical Officer will be essential in ensuring quality of existing clinical health service delivery in Garbaharey.
Reporting to Trocaire’s Clinical Coordinator, this is a fixed term for two years and is based in Garbaharey, Gedo region of Somalia.

Programme

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Programme
As the leader of the Hospital Management team, the Medical Officer will ensure that clinical services at hospital, MCH and Outreach levels are of a high standard.
S/he will carry out daily ward rounds to review patient progress and care.
S/he will diagnose and manage common and emergency surgical, obstetric, and gynaecological, paediatric, and tropical medical conditions and refer those outside his or her skills.
Engage with the relevant stakeholders to promote health services delivery
Participate in outreach programs and health education campaigns.
Collaborate with, DHBs, local health authorities and local authorities to enhance healthcare services in the district.
S/he will be available, including after hours, to physically review patients, attend to emergencies and instruct nursing staff in writing reports on the required patient care.
Conduct all elective and emergency surgical cases in theatre, both surgical and obstetric/gynaecological.
S/he will provide continuous on-job mentoring and training for nurses and midwives in clinical skills and good patient care.
Conduct special outpatient clinics in the hospital on the allocated days every week i.e. SOPC, GOPC, HRC, HOPC, DOPC, and MOPC.
S/he will lead by example, working to the highest standards of professionalism, ethics and integrity
S/he will regularly arrange and chair all clinical and administrative meetings and ensure all data and information is collected, transmitted, and utilized to benefit the patients and service providers as is necessary.
S/he will work with the HMIS Officer to ensure that health data for the district is properly recorded and make the necessary recommendations for improved service provision.
Ensure adherence to clinical guidelines and protocols.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
Conduct regular audits and reviews of obstetric services and implement changes as needed.
S/he will supervise activities on the control of major endemic/epidemic diseases.
Manage inventory and supplies of health care services in the district .
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and reports.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
She/he will perform any other duties as requested by his/her line manager.
