Emergency Medical Officer , Nauru

Job Location: Nauru


Exciting Rotational position 6 weeks on 6 weeks off!

The purpose of this role is;To provide initial emergency response and stabilization to transferees and stakeholders located within the offshore sites.
To provide clinical and professional direction to the IHMS Medical Officers.
To provide direct clinical support to the service as needed.

Some Key Responsibilities:
Assess, diagnose and treat transferees and stakeholders within the fields of Emergency Medicine and/or General Practice.
Provide immediate assessment, diagnosis and treatment of transferees and stakeholders in remote emergency situations
Provide advice and education to nurses and allied health professionals as necessary or as requested.
Participate in periodic Fit to Travel (FTT) medicals as required.
Participate in scheduled meetings and training as required or requested.
Liaise with all parties involved in the medical management of transferees and stakeholders in the Regional Processing Centre. This includes health center staff, security and external health care providers.

Superior clinical decision-making with specific regard to emergency medical situations in a busy work environment
Motivated to provide a high quality service
Works well as part of a multidisciplinary team and in a nurse-led clinical environment
Good analytical skills with the capacity to approach clinical problems broadly
Ability to effectively communicate with staff, patients and management
Well organized and time efficient
Knowledge and experience of working with culturally diverse client groups or a willingness to develop this
Ability to use computerized medical records
Capacity to appreciate the potential challenges of delivery health services in a politically sensitive environment

Required Work experience:
Significant full time experience in Emergency Medicine settings or equivalent
Experience with computerized medical records and medical practice systems is highly desirable
Previous experience working in remote locations or in culturally different locales is desirable
Previous experience in Detention, Refugee and/or military settings is desirable


Required qualification 
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or Bachelor of Medicine
Certification in Emergency Medicine or equivalent
Fellowship of the RACEM/ACRRM or equivalent (FCEM, FACEP, FCEM(SA)) mandatory
Driver’s License prerequisite: Required. Nauru.
