Job Description
Role Summary:
The Flight Nurse is an essential part of the multi-disciplined medical team, responsible for administering critical care to seriously ill and injured patients in flight.
Duties and responsibilities:
Providing care related to critical care transportation and flight medicine
Responsible for total patient care including taking vital signs, setting and administering medication
Assisting the physician with procedures and treatments
Responsible for careful assessment and monitoring of patient vital signs watching for sudden or subtle changes in the medical condition that might require emergency intervention
Ensuring that ventilators, monitors and other types of medical equipment function properly
Monitoring and administering medication and intravenous infusions
Maintaining the patient’s clinical records;
This list is non-exhaustive, and the role holder may be required to undertake additional duties that are not specifically listed above.
Qualifications
A first level degree as a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner with a minimum of three (3) years’ postgraduate continuous progressive clinical experience in general nursing, intensive care, emergency medicine, and health administration
Postgraduate training in Intensive/ Critical Care Nursing/ Anesthesia/Emergency Care Nursing with a minimum of three (3) years’ post qualification experience.
Training in Aviation Nursing
Certification in PHTLS (or equivalent) and ACLS
Additional Information
Rotation of 8 weeks on-duty followed by 4 weeks off-duty.
