Scope of Work (SOW)
International Medical Corps, which has a history of providing healthcare services and training in Ukraine that dates back to 1999, is expanding its activities in the country and the surrounding region in response to the war there.
The situation throughout Ukraine is deteriorating rapidly as the conflict intensifies, prompting a sharp increase in humanitarian needs as access to essential services and supplies are disrupted and more and more people flee their homes. In addition, millions of Ukrainians have fled to neighboring countries, including Moldova, Poland and Romania, increasing pressure on host governments as they work to provide shelter and essential services to the new arrivals.
Our response activities will include operation of mobile medical teams and providing emergency and primary health services, mental health and psychosocial support, gender-based violence services, child protection, nutrition, and water, sanitation and hygiene. If requested, we also are prepared to deploy our Emergency Medical Team and mobile health facility to provide emergency and primary healthcare wherever it is needed.
JOB SUMMARY: The Nurse will be responsible for providing nursing services in a primary health care setting. He/she will be responsible for providing client counseling and direct care including adult, adolescent and pediatric health services for both chronic and acute conditions. He/she is expected to triage patients, ensure smooth patient flow, provide clinical nursing care, assist with referrals as needed and provide health education and hygiene promotion. In addition, he/she may also be requested to assist hospital staff in a capacity they have the skills and capacity to assist as needed.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation:
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide clinical nursing services for disaster-affected population according to internationally accepted standards.
• Ensure that patients are accurately registered and recorded for reporting and case management.
• Ensure proper data management through completion of appropriate patient cards, registers, tally sheets, and reports
• Track daily patient data using tally sheets or other tools provided and submit patient data as required
• Monitor diagnostic trends and report to supervisor as needed
• Collect and analyze project and service data to inform and adjust project objectives/plans, strategic choices and quality of care in collaboration with IMC team members, local partners and other relevant staff
• Conduct urinalysis and rapid diagnostic such as blood glycose or additional rapid tests such as malaria tests
• Provide health education and hygiene promotion to patients based on their diagnoses and co-morbidities such as diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention (such as need for vaccination, smoking cessation, etc.)
• Collect and analyze project / service data to inform and adjust project objectives/plans, strategic choices and quality of care / Shelter Medical Team in collaboration with IMC team members, local partners and other relevant staff
• Attend physical examination of Reproductive Health patients, as needed
• Ensure relevant patients including children under 5 are screened for malnutrition
• Work with program staff, nurses and auxiliary staff (e.g. CHWs) to provide both didactic and on-the-job training to build capacity and enhance their skills
• Track daily patient data using tally sheets or other tools provided
• Monitor diagnostic trends and report to supervisor as needed
• Collaborate with other departments as needed to ensure smooth implementation and integration of services
• Adhere to administrative directives with regards to work schedules, record keeping, patient communications, re-stocking of essential drugs, consumables and other medical supplies
• Provide all services free of charge
• Nursing staff will be assigned additional duties including triage, IPC, child protection focal point, dispensing, and/or data management as needed in the response
General
• Deployed personnel are expected to assist with the setup, maintenance and demobilization of the clinical spaces and base camp as required.
Policy Adherence
• Actively promote PSEA (prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and among beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.
• Adhere to the Code of Conduct, maintain humanitarian principles and respect international humanitarian law at all times.

JOB REQUIREMENTS *
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Typically, a Register Nurse with a valid nursing license to practice. Master’s in Public Health preferable. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
• Typically, 6+ years of relevant and progressive experience in Nursing, including minimum 2+ years of should be of developing country experience or in low-resource settings.
• Experience in overseas programs relating to primary health care, maternal and child health, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS preferable
• Previous NGO experience preferable
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a dynamic, high pressure environment
• Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
• Excellent self-motivation skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and excellent decision-making skills.
• Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations
• Able to work effectively with various personalities and cultures
• Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively.
• Able to work and live in an austere environment with limited resources.
• Able to deploy to emergencies on short notice
ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL OR LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the responsibilities referenced above, candidates can expect to be living and working in austere conditions. Lifting moderately heavy objects from the ground, carrying a backpack for extended periods of time, and walking or hiking in remote locations may be necessary to perform these functions.
Eligibility to work in the European Union or Ukraine desirable. Fluency in Russian, Ukrainian, Polish or other relevant language preferred.
