Job Description
The purpose of this job is to perform specialized duty work functions in preparing for and responding to fire/medical emergency calls and in providing general support within the Fire Department. Duties and responsibilities include maintaining readiness for emergency call response; responding to fire, medical, and related emergency calls when dispatched and taking proper action; educating staff and public on fire safety/prevention; and performing Fire Department activities. Additionally, this position is responsible for covering NREMT-Basic positions on the Ambulance when there is a manning shortage in EMS due to leave, missions, etc.
Responsibilities

Responds to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured and transports the patient to the designated ambulance transfer point.
Provide pre‐hospital emergency medical care of simple and multiple system traumas.
Assist the Paramedic in determining the nature and extent of illness or injury and establishing priorities for required emergency care.
Assist the Paramedic in rendering emergency medical care to all patients.
Operate all emergency vehicles with due diligence for the safety of others.
Maintains equipment, tools, and protective clothing in a serviceable ready-response condition
Performs other duties and assignments as stipulated in the PWS.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certificates: Two years related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
Nationally Registered as an EMT-Basic.
Holds a CPR/BLS and First Aid certifications.
Must read, write, and speak English fluently.
Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in emergency health care setting.
Bachelor’s Degree or above is an attribute.
Must have a minimum of two years of experience working on an emergency response ambulance.
Excellent communicative skills, both written & verbal.
Computer skills, copier/scanning experience and the ability to learn newly admitted equipment into the EMS inventory. Preferred, seasoned instructor in the EMS career field.
Foreign National
A local driver’s license is required.
Program Specific Requirements:
Extensive Fire Fighting and Emergency Service Experience. (5 Years)
Must be able to supervise and manage the activities of multi-national and culturally diverse work force.
Possess knowledge of safety and environmental issues.
Accustomed to dealing at executive level.
Be familiar with various Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Prior military experience a plus but not mandatory.
Working Environment:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines, tools and equipment which includes a motor vehicle, computer, stretchers, litters, medical equipment, etc. Must be physically able to carry objects, patients or materials. Must be able to exert in excess of one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of fifty pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for very heavy work. Candidate will work on shifts consisting of 6 days at 8 hours per day totaling 48 hours per week. This consists of days, swings and midnight-shifts. Position will require lifting, pulling and dragging. Candidate must be able to lift at minimum 100lbs.
