Description: Nurse / Stewardess -

POSITION SUMMARY This position has dual responsibilities. The primary responsibility of the Nurse/Steward is to ensure that the owners, guests and crew are provided with a high level of on board medical care. As time permits, the positions secondary responsibility is to ensure that the owners and their guests are provided with the highest level of service and attention specifically tailored to their needs during their stay on board by keeping the yacht maintained to an immaculate condition. All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with the policies and standard operating procedures of the vessel. In addition, all duties are to be executed in conformity with ISM/SMS standards, STCW conventions and all other environmental protection and safety policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Nurse Duties

Provide medical care to owners, guests and crew in a professional and confidential manner. Directs the care and delegates as appropriate. In the event of the requirement of shore-side care, co-ordinates transport, care and communication.
Work with Captain and Chief Officer and directly with individuals to assist in a medical emergency if needed.
Coordinate telemedical care with on board videoconferencing equipment and telephonic stethoscope/otoscope with physician and emergency medical consultants by phone.
Insert IV and administer emergency IV drugs with remote physician supervision.
Maintenance of all records; crew medical records, medical care records.
Manage Owner and Guest medical history. Ensure that all crew have vaccinations and that country-specific requirements are known well in advance to ensure vaccinations can be obtained in time.
Facilitate first aid training for all crew members as well as any other appropriate training.
When required liaise with the nominated maritime medical provider and/or doctor to provide appropriate medical care to patient(s).
Maintain medical equipment including conducting monthly checks.
Coordinate checks of telemedical equipment so it is service ready for service.
Purchase and maintain medical inventory including equipment supplies and drugs.
Control medications, rotation and appropriate destruction.
Participates in safety meetings and leads the support team; communicates relevant safety information to safety officer and partners on post accident evaluations.
Manages the medical budget.
Maintains professional certification, knowledge and skills.
Clean and maintain the clinic.
Must possess functional knowledge and be able to operate the following medical equipment or equivalent equipment:
iStat1 (Abbot)
Infusion Pumps (Braun)
Heartstart MRX (Philips)
intelliVue Monitor –MP50 (Philips)
Spot Vital Monitor (WelchAllyn)
PanOptic Ophthalmoscope (WelchAllyn)
Octoscope (WelchAllyn)
Ultrasonic Pocket Doppler (EDAN-Sonotrax)
Oxygen equipment
AutoPulse –(Zoll)Steward Duties (Other duties as assigned).

Provide the guests with exceptional house keeping services and superior personal service at all times. This responsibility may require accompanying the owners and/or guests on tours, shopping trips, excursions or providing childcare services.
Clean, maintain and preserve all house keeping areas to the highest standards.
Report any equipment that needs repair or maintenance to the Chief Steward or the appropriate Head of Department.
Manage the area of assigned responsibility (e.g., wardrobe care, owner amenities, guest amenities, owners deck, stationary, or flowers & plants), which would include updating and maintaining appropriate inventories.
Complete tasks assigned by the Chief or Lead Steward. These tasks may be assigned in the daily morning meeting.
Participate in all mandatory safety training and drills as required and follow the environmental guidelines set forth for the vessel.
Communicate clearly and efficiently within the interior department and with other departments to ensure all matters are addressed in a timely manner. This communication will include the use of technology devices.
Assist other departments / crew as required to ensure smooth operation of the vessel.
All duties are to be executed in conformity with ISM/SMS standards as well as all other environmental protection and safety policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty to the highest standard. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Knowledge, experience, skill, and/or ability Required

RN
Current ACLS Certificate, or equivalent
Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience post registration.
STCW 10
Valid ENG1
Valid Passport with US visas (B1/B2)
Must be comfortable working in a remote nursing environment without the hands on support of a nursing team.
Must be able to work independently or within a team environment.
Must have a keen eye for detail.
Must be flexible.
Must be able to manage time efficiently and effectively ensuring all tasks are completed as required.
Must be able to prioritize external requests including inter-departmental and guest related needs.
Ability to multitask is required.
General experience with child and elder care.
Discretion and confidentiality is mandatory.
Exceptional spoken and written English skills required. Additional languages preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Emergency medical training and experience
Hyperbaric chamber operations experience
Experience with travel health and dive medicine preferred.
Hospitality experience.

Capable of standing for long periods of time (up to 8 plus hours).
Ability to perform occasional kneeling, crouching, stooping; frequent reaching, pushing, pulling; and constant lifting, carrying, handling and standing.
Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds/16 Kilos. Ability to lift and move weight in excess of 35 pounds/16 Kilos with assistance.
Ability to function effectively in a demanding and diverse multi-cultural environment.
Must be self-directed and have the temperament and interpersonal skills to work and live in close-quarters with other members of the crew for extended periods.
Ability to live on board a vessel during long distance passages with the possibility of excessive motion due to rough conditions and minimal access to land based resources.
Ability to function and work effectively in a high pace, high stress environment.
