OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The overall objectives of the Regional PolioEradication Initiative are to lead the regional eradication efforts of nationalgovernments and the polio eradication partnership to interrupt the transmissionof poliovirus, certify eradication, eventually stop the use of oral poliovirusvaccine, and help in planning for polio transition to sustain polio free statusafter certification of eradication and transition polio functions , skills andlesson learned to benefit other public heath interventions. The immediatestrategic objectives are to stop polio transmission in the remaining endemiccountries, closure of outbreaks (in outbreak countries), mitigate the risk of polioin very high risk and high risk countries, sustain the achievements in low riskcountries, and prepare all the countries in the region for early detection andeffective response to any polio outbreak.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Supervise a team to develop, update and manage all information systems of polio eradication work at both regional and country levels. Ensure continuous regular compilation, analysis and interpretation of data related to poliomyelitis eradication programme. Develop and disseminate on regular basis the polio eradication data, in the Regional Office and the Member States, in particular the weekly Polio fax. Regularly monitor outbreak risk for Member States and advise them on necessary actions and share periodically risk analysis along with propose mitigation measures with member states, oversight bodies and other stakeholders. Maintain and further develop the database management system ensuring reliability and accuracy of data and its timely utilization to monitor impact of interventions as well as guide the program planning and designing new/additional interventions. Coordinate with member states to conduct field and desk surveillance reviews to ensure sensitive and efficient surveillance system at national and sub-national levels Provide technical support to National authorities in planning, implementing and monitoring supplementary immunization activities and in surveillance reviews. Develop, plan, organize and conduct training programmes on data management for national responsible officers. Provide technical support in other polio eradication and immunization program related activities as and when advised by the Manger and/or Team Leader Cross Cutting Functions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential:
University degree in medicine and Master's degree in Public Health.

Desirable: Post graduate degree in Biostatics and qualifications in Health Management Information System


Experience
Essential
: At least 7 years of experience at national and international levels in Public Health and Data Management

Desirable: Experience in health mapping and GIS

Skills
Excellent knowledge ofepidemiology principles and statistics.Ability to draft reports in precise and concise matter. Ability to maintain excellent workingrelationships at all levels.

Use of Language Skills
Essential: Expert knowledge of English.
Desirable: Intermediate knowledge of French.

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 74,913 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2815 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
