Position Summary:
The Firefighter/EMT-B is responsible for responding to emergencies during designated and assigned Emergency Response shift of a 24/7 Fire Station in accordance with the performance work statement. Emergency response includes all fires, fire alarms, crashes, accidents, hazardous material incidents, and rescue requests to assure the daily operational effectiveness of the department. The qualified candidate shall report to the Lead Figherfighter and work with a team of fire services support personnel.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES: Please list by order of priority and, if possible, provide the percentage of time spent on the activity all should equal 100%.
1. Responsible for responding to emergencies as a line Firefighter/EMT-B in accordance with the performance work statement and NFPA 72 Fire Alarm and Signaling, NFPA 101 Life Safety Codes and the AFI 32-2001 Fire Prevention Program.
2. Responds to emergency care and rescue involving potential loss of life or bodily injury; maintains control, manages and directs or assists with patient care at the scene of a pre-hospital emergency.
3. Applies cardiopulmonary resuscitation per American Heart Association standards and performs other basic emergency medical procedures.
4. Drives and manages the ambulance vehicle while on duty, operates ambulance in a safe manner while responding to the scene, and during the transport of patients.
5. Maintains vehicles, equipment, tools, and protective clothing in a serviceable ready-response condition.
6. Operates pumps, foam generators, boom and ground sweeps nozzles, and other similar equipment as needed.
7. Uses a variety of special protective gear in situations where poisonous gases, radioactive materials, and hazardous biological products are involved.
8. Exercises caution to avoid team and personal injury and property damage.
9. Protect and preserve evidence indicating incident cause for investigation.
10. Follows operational policy, procedures and contingency plans.
Responsible for following a comprehensive quality and safety program in compliance with Vectrus, OSHA and United States Air Force (USAF) requirements.
Responsible for following a comprehensive, flexible, and properly documented training program.
Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, sanitary, healthy, presentable, professional atmosphere, free of dust, clutter and trash in all working facilities and areas.
Responsible for proper utilization and safeguarding of all government and contractor provided property (e.g., to include government facilities, equipment and tools).
Responsible for precise execution of company time reporting procedures and accurate completion of timesheet.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
Fire fighting apparatus, tools, ladders, equipment, and systems. Basic ambulance and medical equipment.
Personal computer, printer, calculator, FAX machine, copy machine and other general office equipment. Operates ambulance and specialized fire vehicles/equipment.. May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions that require wear of hard hats, gloves, steel toed boots, hearing protection, safety glasses and other personal protection equipment (PPE); may be required to push, pull and lift heavy equipment. Use of portable or vehicle equipped radios to maintain contact and accountability of work activities.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work will be indoors and outdoors. Exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, chemicals may occur. Overtime and shift work may be required depending on contractual needs. Employee must comply with all Federal, State and Local regulations and published Company work rules as well as written instructions. Task specific work environment training will be provided as required. Must be prepared to function in a wartime environment to support U. S. interests. 100% Overseas Assignment.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Physical requirements include lifting up to 35lb, team lifting up to 50lbs, climbing, extended sitting, or standing, stooping, stretching, and bending. Occasional climbing and working in high places may be required
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
High School graduate
Must be Fire Fighter I & II certified, Airport Fire Fighter certified and Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations certified.
Certified by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as an EMT and American Heart Association cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification or equivalent at the health care provider level.
Must pass and maintain entry-level physical examination in accordance with NFPA 1582
Must have a current, valid U. S. Passport and Driver’s License (able to drive manual transmission).
Must have and maintain a valid U. S. SECRET Security Clearance prior to deployment.
Must be able to pass a flight line access test and obtain flight line access badge.
Must be able to pass employment and deployment qualification requirements that include
psychological, medical, dental, drug testing and background checks.
Candidates must successfully complete both online and hands-on CBRN (chemical, biological,radiological and nuclear) defense training. Training includes the successful fit testing of DOD provided protective gear.
Experience:
Two years fire fighting and EMT-B experience in the US Military, DOD or civilian.
Be able to process information quickly and efficiently to determine nature of complaint.
Be able to gather pertinent information from patient, bystanders, and scene to make rapid
transport decision.
Interpret vital signs to accurately determine patient’s physiological status.
Must be licensed to drive an ambulance or similar vehicle, and have a good driving record.
Ambulance operator’s role is critical, so they must be dependable, resilient, calm under pressure, use sound judgment and capable of making quick decisions.
Skills:
Must be proficient with Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point
Fluent in English with good verbal, reading, and writing skills.
Performs all tasks IAW verbal and written instructions to the established standards.
Able and willing to work periods of long hours to meet mission requirements
Military experience in a contingency environment and knowledge and experience working with government contracts preferred.
