Position Scope
Reporting to the Safety Supervisor, the Paramedic works as the primary healthcare professional responsible in providing pre-hospital assessment and medical care for the mine site. This position also plays a critical role in the site emergency preparedness and response plan and works very closely with the mine site emergency response coordinator and mine rescue members. The incumbent in this position is required to be on call 24 hours while at site.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and maintain the first aid services plan on site for Kemess.
Maintain the onsite medical facility, its equipment, and inventories to industry standards. This includes cleaning, decontaminating and inspecting emergency vehicles and equipment to maintain a constant state of emergency preparedness.
Provide routine medical care and advanced life support services to the mine site.
Respond to emergency calls for medical assistance at accidents and emergencies.
On call during the night for emergencies only.
Assure compliance with company policies and procedures
Administer drug and alcohol screening as per company policy
Provide monthly reports and statistics concerning site injuries and incidents
Perform industrial hygiene sampling program including medical surveillance testing
Participate with Emergency Response Team and emergency response drills
Liaising with members of emergency services, such as the police, coroner, Mine Rescue personnel and other ambulance services to ensure the appropriate level of response.
Manning an ambulance or other rapid response vehicle.
Preparing and reporting the patient's history, condition and treatment to relevant hospital staff.
Other Health and Safety duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Primary Care Paramedic registered in British Columbia with IV endorsement
Class 4 license in British Columbia
Drug and alcohol collection training would be an asset
Strong written and oral communications skills
Friendly and caring bed-side manner
Organization Skills
Ability to remain calm and composed during emergency situations
Conflict Management skills
Leadership skills that inspires others to keep working towards the vision of “Zero Incidents & Accidents.”
Ability and willingness to learn.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This position follows a schedule rotation of 14 days on site and 14 days off site, 12-hour shifts
