The medical coordinator role is to plan and to implement theatre-wide medical support activities for DDG Programme in Libya, including conduct of relevant life support and first aid trainings for all DDG field staff as well as DRC on request. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Establish a medical capacity to support all mine action operations in the country;
Take an active role in capacity building national medical support staff to successfully take on the roles of Senior medic and country medical coordinator.
Assess and advise the need for additional medical support staff and equipment to meet operational requirements as well as organizational standards;
Support recruitment and if requested, review potential medical support staff qualifications and skill level;
Organizing and conduct field medic training with medical support staff in compliance with organizational SOPs; and international best practices.
Organizing and conduct first responder trainings and refresher trainings with all field staff in compliance with organization’s SOPs;
Provide first responder trainings for DDG or DRC program staff as requested;
Establish and or review CASEVAC plans for demining activities and MEDEVAC plans for all DRC and DDG program;
Assist DRC safety team in the development and enhancement of Medical Evacuation and Response Plans (MERP)
Identify and conduct assessment of local medical facilities within DDG areas of operations.
Identify additional resources required for successful operations, casualty evacuation and medical support to mine action activities.
Evaluate and if necessary, amend and modify country specific medical SOP’s for approval from DDG HQ
Initiate best practices in order to meet operational needs;
Ensure chain of custody for controlled drugs is created and maintained.
Provide technical assistance to procurement support staff in selecting suitable medical equipment, materials, medicine and vehicles in compliance with SOP, IMAS and where appropriate national and international standards;
Maintain inspect and keep record of all medical related equipment;
Monitor, support and conduct quality inspections of medical support staff, policies and procedures;
Advise DRC and DDG senior management of any health issues applicable for the country and for specific areas of intervention;
Provide monthly report of operations conducted and provide work plan for the following month
Other tasks as requested by the DDG Operations Manager.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to Paramedic certified. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support certified or equivalent (Advanced Treatment of Trauma etc.)
Advanced cardiac Life Support certified
Previous Remote and Austere medical experience.
Previous work experience in the Middle East or North Africa.
Experience of field work with an NGO in the humanitarian/development sector
Experience in within the mine action sector
Registered Paramedic.
Certified Instructor or proven experience in delivering training to multinational staff
PHTLS, ALS, ACLS.
English – fluent both written and oral;
Desirable
Arabic – may be considered as an advantage.
