Summary:

Bering Global Solutions, LLC a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation, is seeking an experienced Medic in support of the Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) International Police Peacekeeping Operations Support (IPPOS) program.

The requirement is to support U.S. government efforts to enhance the operational effectiveness of police in peacekeeping operations. The goal of this program is to improve the capacity of partner countries to generate, train, deploy, and lead effective police officers and units in UN Peacekeeping missions by providing capacity-building support and specialized training.

The IPPOS program has a multi-pronged approach:
Build institutional sustainability to improve the management, logistical, and administrative capacities that contribute to high-quality deployments.
Collaborate with UN Police Division to improve doctrine, develop UN training standards for police, and certify UN instructors.
Train FPU commanders, FPU mechanics, and FPUs in areas that include, but are not limited to, leadership, firearms, VIP protection, and equipment maintenance.
Develop local training staff and mentor them as they deliver UN required pre-deployment training to Formed Police Units (FPUs) and Individual Police Officers (IPOs).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position, and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.

Contractor shall provide a medic or equivalent as part of the MTT to serve two roles. The first role would be as a medical provider to render medical assistance to members of the MTT in the field. The second role would be as a trainer to deliver basic medical courses as needed such as first aid/first responder and casualty care.

Responsibilities:
Provide routine and emergency medical support to the MTT during training and/or capacity building deployment which includes the training site, police contributing country, and other locations where the MTT will travel;
Identify additional medical resources available to the MTT in an emergency and develop a plan to respond to key health risks during training (e.g. climate, parasites, tropical disease, training or firearms accident, traffic incident, etc.);
Plan for and facilitate emergency medical evacuation. (Contractor will also provide medical evacuation insurance for all deployed personnel.);
Deliver training in-country based on INL-approved training curriculum on topics such as first aid and first responder, HIV/Aids, malaria, safe travel, stress management, and combat casualty first aid;
Travel overseas to and within countries that are considered dangerous or unhealthy or other adverse environment;
In the event of a medical emergency, the medic shall evaluate the extent of the illness or injury and render first aid to stabilize the sick or injured personnel to the best of their ability in the field setting until transport can be arranged for more advanced medical care; and
Report to the Training Team Leader.

Minimum Qualifications:
Active certification as an EMT, Field Medic, Physician Assistant or similar equivalent
At least one (1) year training experience;
Demonstrated experience providing medical support in a developing country or austere environment;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Must be willing and capable of working in a fluid environment, under challenging circumstances;
Must demonstrate ability to work well in a team environment and with trainers from another country;
Travel overseas to and within countries that are considered dangerous or unhealthy or have other adverse or austere environments with limited or no medical facilities; and
Must be able to deliver police training to foreign nationals through a language assistant.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to serve in dual MTT trainer/medic role (see qualifications of MTT trainer above);
Ability to speak and read foreign languages, especially French or Arabic;
Prior UN peacekeeping experience or international police training and mentoring experience;
Knowledge of multilateral/multidimensional peacekeeping operations; and
UN Police training certification.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must maintain a constant state of mental alertness at all times. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Trainer/Advisor must be willing and able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Trainer will be deployed for periods up to 16 weeks with limited access to western medical facilities. Trainer will be working in austere environments and will likely spend several hours a day out of doors in hot climates.



Employees who are required to travel in connection with an order, must be physically able to travel to the intended destination and remain there without significant health risk for the required period. Employees will be responsible for assuring they have received the proper immunizations and take proper health measures before, during, and after said travel.

Work is CONUS based, however, may require travel to and within countries with security, health, and other potentially dangerous conditions.

Supervisory responsibilities are not required for this position

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
Must have reliable transportation to/from work, a necessity, and must be able to obtain access to government installations.
This position may be subject to random drug and or alcohol testing on an unannounced basis.
