Medical Trainer (SMW 1st & 2nd SOAT-Central)
Requirement Overview:
The SMW Special Operations Advisory Team (SOAT) – Central Medical Trainer shall implement and operate programs, practices, and procedures for developing optimal utilization of personnel. Design and administer programs to train all levels of personnel. Develop tests and visual aids. Coordinate class arrangements, conduct training classes, and develop criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities. Keep abreast of training and development research: learning theory, motivation theory, and new materials, methods, and techniques. Develop programs and practices to identify developmental needs including preparing personnel for more responsible positions and increasing effectiveness in present assignments. If required, may use technical experts to assist in training.
Work Hours:
Work may include nights, holidays, and weekends on short notice. Standard will be to conduct training six (6) days per week for up to ten (10) hours per day while at OCONUS work site(s) and a standard 40 hour work week while at CONUS work sites.
Responsibilities:
The SMW SOAT Medical Mentor shall train SMW counterparts on the following tasks:
Ensures Squadron medical preparation and maintains medical equipment and supplies, provides examination and care to detachment members and establishes temporary, fixed and unconventional warfare medical facilities to support operations with emergency, routine, and long term medical care
Manages detachment or indigenous patients, administration, admission and discharge, care, laboratory and pharmacological requirements and the initiation, maintenance and transfer of records
Orders, stores, catalogs, safeguards and distributes medical supplies, equipment and pharmaceutical. Supervises medical care and treatment during split detachment missions
Treats emergency and trauma patients in accordance with established surgical principles
Diagnoses and treats various medical dermatological, pediatric and infectious conditions using appropriate medications, intravenous fluid support and physical measures
Ensures SMW SOAT medics possess the skills to independently conduct the following tasks: tactical combat casualty care, medical screening, evaluation and treatment, Battalion Aid Station operations, sustainment of trauma evaluation, and resuscitative care
Medical Trainer shall report to the SMW Deputy Program Manager
Provide training to ASSF Medics on Special Operations Medical Procedures, Combat Lifesaver Courses, and sick call procedures.
Trainer will be responsible for regularly interacting with US military personnel
Based on circumstances that are unique to work locations, the trainer will be responsible for making on the scene decisions as to how to execute the curriculum
The trainer will be responsible for assessing how well the ASSF students have learned the coursework
Support and assist Green Platoon training in support of the SMW Special Operations Advisory Group and the SMW

Required Operational, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
4 years of appropriate level of experience, E7/O3 or higher, either as a SOCOM qualified 18D, a US conventional force medic equivalent (US Army, US Navy, US Air Force), or have experience with operational USSOCOM BN/GRP-level
Competent with operating Personal Computer Skills & Microsoft Office

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Include but are not limited to the wear of body armor and helmet Personal Protective Gear, unassisted lifting and carrying of duffle bags not exceed the weight of 70 lbs per piece, and the unassisted movement over uneven terrain.
Must be willing to work and live in Afghanistan with an understanding that there could be further assignments to any location in Afghanistan based upon the needs of the U.S. Government, to include hostile and austere areas.
Must be able to attend and pass USG deployment requirements at CONUS Replacement Center (CRC), Fort Bliss, Texas or equivalent location.
Must meet the medical requirements for the position being offered as determined by a pre-employment medical screening and in accordance with published CRC and USCENTCOM medical deployment standards.
Must be able to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces up to eight (8) hours per day and sit for up to three (3) hours per day.
Must be able to routinely climb / descend stairs.
Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows / knees, and reach above / below shoulders.
Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print.
Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
Employee will be required to work and live in a potentially hostile environment, at remote locations, and under austere conditions.
May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, under extreme weather conditions, within a hostile environment.
May be exposed to extreme noise from aircraft, hostile fire, and other acts of aggression associated with this region.
Contractor personnel shall comply with all theater command policies, regulations, and General Orders. All tours are unaccompanied
Security Clearance Requirement:
Must possess and maintain a SECRET security clearance. Clearance is required to access and handle classified and personal personnel material, attend project meetings, and/or work within restricted areas unescorted.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Prefer Infantry or Special Operations background
Prefer previous experience training and advising foreign military soldiers
Experience in the Medical Services Corps as a physician’s assistant, MSC, nurse, or physician in a supervisory position with experience in oversight of clinical operations and provide guidance and direction in processing all staff-level functions is highly desired.
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree from accredited school & four (4) years of related experience, OR two (2) years related experience with Master's degree. Eight (8) years of additional equivalent work experience (12 total years) may be accepted in lieu of BA/BS education requirement.
