JOB PURPOSE AND POSITION SUMMARY

The Safety Medic is a combined position of a field QHSE Advisor and a Medic. This position reports
directly to the Region HSSE Manager as well as the Project Party Manager. Advises and assists the Party
Manager in planning and managing the HSE aspects of the survey / project. Support and assist the crew
in the sustained implementation and verification of HSE standards and procedures and adherence to these
through training, technical assistance and monitoring. Promote a consistent HSE awareness throughout
the crew and assures robust reporting on HSE activities and events. As well as provide medical services
(competent illness and injury prevention and treatment) and maintenance of the medical equipment and
supplies.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

QHSE standards and HSE procedures

Develops line management HSE awareness and ensures HSE is an integral part of line management
objectives for the project
Organizes and records HSE training for project personnel including subcontractors, and organizes
refresher or update courses
Checks that section and “tool box” meetings take place and centralizes reports from these
Ensures that HSE information issued by the QHSE Management Team is distributed
Ensures that the site documentation is maintained, updated and revised accordingly
Ensures that personnel are made aware of changes to key HSE documentation as it occurs
Actively participates in briefings and de-briefings of HSE stand-downs, drills, operational activities etc.
Acts as a focal point for all crew/survey/project QHSE matters
Advises Party Manager on the compliance with the local HSE program and with local, national and
international regulations as well as industry guidelines
Participates in liaising with subcontractors, clients and local agencies regarding HSE
Supports the crew in managing risk (e.g. TRA’s, MOC, PRA’s)
Coach crew in Task Risk Assessments (TRA’s) and assist in the review of Work Instructions
Verifies accuracy of applicable planning documents (Project, Crew, Yard, Bridging, etc)
Keeps abreast of any new development or policy related to HSE and informs crew management
accordingly
Reports on the progress and monitors action points and ensures they are tracked to closure
Advises all crew in the use of Guardian for event and activity reporting
Participates in event investigations (HPI’s, significant events, recordable,) *Dependent on skill set may
co-lead the investigation process
Encourages and actively supports the company Behavioral Safety Program
Maintains the inspections system
Captures all HSE project activity in Guardian
Reviews project HSE performance indicators and monitor performance against Objectives
Assists the Party Manager / Deputy Party Manager in the crew HSE committee meetings

Medical Responsibilities

Provide advice and administer medical treatment for personnel on all SBGS worksites and SBGS
contracted vessels, camp locations and worksites
Develop and maintain updated vaccination register as per SBGS and/or client requirements based upon
geography and known regional risk factors
Reporting of all injuries/illnesses as per SBGS Event reporting protocol defined in the Event Reporting,
Notification & Analysis standard
Emergency trauma response, Injured Person stabilization and care
Coordination of evacuations (in conjunction with defined support/assistance as per the
crew/survey/project Emergency Response Plan)
Testing and reporting of any changes to the Medical Emergency Response Plan (MERP) as needed
Be available to travel with Injured Person as required
Medical record keeping and clinic administration including initial audit of equipment and medicines
Supervision of medical equipment and supplies in cooperation with Chief Mate; also maintain the hospital
inventory and stock control in accordance with regulatory and SBGS inventory standards and ordering
procedures
Provide Morbidity Report to Party Manager and Region QHSE Manager at the end of each trip
Conduct weekly health & hygiene inspections of onsite catering, accommodation and laundry areas
Develop and implement crew/survey/project specific health and fitness campaigns and initiatives


QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Technical Qualifications:

NEBOSH certificate or University Degree (HSE) or past industry experience
 Paramedic license/certification or higher (Advanced Life Support Provider); International certifications on
a case by case basis
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider (Current)
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) provider (Current); Instructor preferred

Experience:
Previous experience in seismic operations and/or maritime environment would be highly desired

Managerial & Behavioral Requirements:
Familiar with the various global, federal and state legislation, standards, regulations, etc., on safety
and environmental responsibilities.
Communication Skills:
Must possess excellent oral communication, interpersonal, and multi-tasking skills in a time-sensitive
work environment
Required to speak effectively before groups of Senior Management, clients, subcontractors, and/or
employees of the organization
Complete fluency in the English language

Computer Skills:
Excellent computer skills required
Must have experience with Microsoft Office Programs

Physical/Medical Requirements:
Medically fit to work

Language Requirements:
English is mandatory verbal and written (Excellent Level)

Travel Requirements:
Heavy travel

Other requirements:
Valid Passport
Training and courses in accordance with requirements for this position.
