An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the medical team here at the head office of The HALO Trust’s Cambodia programme in Siem Reap. The HALO Trust’s mission is to lead the effort to protect lives and restore livelihoods for those affected by conflict. In over 25 countries we remove landmines and other debris of war to release land safely back to communities.

We are looking for a registered doctor, nurse or paramedic to supervise and provide ongoing training to our small team of Cambodian medics. The medical team provides clinical advice and treatment to HALO staff across Cambodia.

This role will enable development in autonomous practice, service development, the delivery of education and training and experience working in a developing country. The successful candidate will report directly to the Cambodia Programme Manager, will have ongoing email/telephone support and supervision from the HALO medical advisory board and will facilitate the annual medical board visit to the programme.

Ideally, the successful applicant will be able to commit to at least nine months in post and will start in Cambodia in mid-April 2019 and have a two week handover with the current nurse. These terms are subject to negotiation with the right candidate.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential:
Registered doctor/nurse/paramedic.
Evidence of ongoing professional development in relevant area of specialty.
Gained enough experience to be clinically autonomous.
Experience in acute care.
The ability to provide leadership and advice within the service and to lead and motivate staff.
The ability to apply flexibility to working practice.
The ability to monitor and evaluate the quality of service provision and implement necessary changes.
The ability and motivation to work creatively and positively with professionals from other disciplines and services.
The ability to work with others to plan, manage and implement service developments.
Skills in IT and maintaining accurate data.
Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information.
Engages with others proactively in order to achieve objectives.
Is confident in their own ability – particularly in relation to decision making.
Can value, respect and promote equality and diversity and understands the requirements of equality and diversity within service area.
Is able to empathise and take in to account the needs and feelings of others.
Is able to appreciate cultural influences and the way in which these may impact the way people view and access healthcare.
Must be willing to travel to remote parts of the country.

Desirable:
Qualification in advanced practice (applicable to nurses and paramedics).
Mentorship/teaching qualification.
Diploma in tropical medicine.
Experience in community care.
Experience of working in a developing country.
Experience of monitoring and measuring service quality.
Experience of effective risk management within a service.
Evidence of working with others to develop and deliver services.
