Nursing Advisor - Uganda

Seed is seeking to hire a part time (10 % Full time equivalent) staff member to provide nursing thought leadership to the Uganda office.

Position Summary:

The Nursing Advisor, Uganda contributes his/her energy, passion and skills to supporting Seed's Uganda country program during a time of rapid growth. The position is a part-time position based in Kampala, Uganda. The Nursing Advisor provides thought leadership and occasional representation to help position Seed to establish a clear, meaningful and engaged strategic position in Uganda across education, practice and policy for nursing and midwifery. The incumbent should have informed thoughts/opinions, leverage existing and future relationships with leaders in education, practice and policy in order to put Seed Global Health on a midterm trajectory for success. This part-time position reports to Country Director and works closely with the clinical team and the program/MEL Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the Country Director, program/MEL officer and respective staff based in the

headquarters office, the Nursing Advisor will undertake the following responsibilities: (The anticipated

workload distribution will be; Technical support 12.5%, Policy, strategy, thought leadership 50% and Nursing representation 12.5%).

Policy support


Guide Seed Global Health’s policy outreach in nursing and midwifery


The incumbent will help identify areas the organization is likely to have the most meaningful impact on country priorities for nursing and midwifery

Technical support


Fostering meaningful networks for Seed Educators in country.


Advising the Boston based clinical team and educators on strategies for successful professional integration


Provide context to new proposals and partnerships related to nursing and midwifery in collaboration with clinical, PQM and development teams

Thought leadership


Provide thought leadership in implementation of the country strategy.


Provide thought leadership on interdisciplinary collaboration between nursing, midwifery and other disciplines in the health sector

Nursing representation
Support the country director to represent Seed Global Health from time to time within professional networks, communities of practice and technical working groups and advise Seed on priorities and trends within the nursing and midwifery professions.

Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a recognized university is required. A master’s degree in nursing, public health or health policy is desirable.


At least 10 years of experience working in nursing education and/or health systems strengthening


Excellent interpersonal skills, including flexibility and a sense of humor


A strong understanding of the Health System and nursing education pathways


A strong network within the health and nursing education fraternity


Demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to build respectful relationships with colleagues from different cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds


Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced and young organization work environment


Experience working with in an NGO preferably related to medical and nursing education


Excellent analytical, writing and synthesis skills


Ability to work independently and proactively solicit required guidance to attain agreed deliverables


Comfortable with high profile liaison


Immediate availability


Will be based Kampala, Uganda

Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
