Chief Medical Officer

Job Summary 
ERG invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of a Chief Medical Officer for Boss mining.

• Ensure that all ERG Africa clinics and hospitals deliver a high standard of medical care together with effectively managing and supervising all medical staff.
• Ensure that the medical service functions are cost effective, and medical staff deliver safe, competent and patient-centered care

Minimum Requirements 
• Bachelor’s degree in Business administration, Finance, Accounting or related qualification
• 10 years in managing a hospital/clinic
• 4+ years’ experience in a middle management
• Strategic planning and strong administrative skills
• Experience with health risk management and safety protocols
• Solid understanding of healthcare procedures and regulation
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Knowledge of medical terminology and hospital industry
• French speaking will be advantageous
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) training is advantageous.


Duties & Responsibilities 
• Monitor ERGA hospital and clinics performance and expenses and find cost effective ways to improve
• Cooperate with the executive team to initiate procedures, regulations and programs to benefit patients
• Oversee the efficient running of the outpatient, emergency, inpatient, occupational health and ancillary (radiology, laboratory and pharmacy), dental services at the clinic / hospital
• Experience in HIV, TB, Malaria is a plus
• Devote half of Day in treating patients in a clinical setting and the other half to administrative responsibilities
• Recommend medical equipment, medicines and consumables that need to be procured for the clinics/hospital
• Draft medical reports and escalates any issues to the relevant GMs or HR Executive
• Ensure that universal infection control precautions are maintained in all sites
• Ensure appropriate medical assistance is provided and all employees are aware of the evacuation procedures
• Draft quarterly and annual budgets and oversees finances such as patient fees and billing
• Stay up-to-date with healthcare regulations
• Comply with any other duties and responsibilities as may be required from the medical director from time to time
• Carry out assigned duties professionally, consistently, ethically and in line with international standards and evidence based medical practices in keeping with standard of care

People Management / Development
• Oversee the work schedule of the medical staff
• Train, motivate and oversee all medical staff and support staff
• Engage and communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, and other internal and external stakeholders
• Institute a behavioural framework for all ERGA medical staff in all the sites
• Promote teamwork, provide support, manage and evaluate performance by creating and maintaining individual development plans and performance contracts for subordinates
• Responsible for training of new physicians and up-skilling of the current medical staff
• Plan, organise, lead, control and develop subordinates' activities
• Set goals and objectives for the team. Monitor and provide feedback. Address progressive poor performance
• Develop and coach team members
Skills and Knowledge • Strong administrative skills with a background in overseeing clinical operations
• Advanced accounting skills
• Financial management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English (French language is advantageous)
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Willingness to adhere to all in-house and legal regulations
• Familiarity with Electrical Health Record (EHR) or Electronic Medical Record (EMR) records systems is advantageous
• Problem-solving attitude.
