Medical Coordinator , Syria

DanChurchAid (DCA) invites applications for an experienced Medical Coordinator for its Syria programme based North East Syria. This position is based on donor funding and is expected to start in September 2018.
The Medical Coordinator’s (MC) main responsibilities are to train, mentor and capacity build National Medics and provide medical assistance to all DCA survey, search and clearance activities in North East Syria. The MC reports to the Operations Manager.
He/she will work in a potentially hostile and arduous environment. He/she will therefore need to demonstrate a positive and self-motivated attitude. Conditions such as these require a level head, situational awareness, cultural understanding, flexibility and attention to detail. Applicants must have the following qualifications and experience:

• Qualified and registered paramedic with recent active experience, preferably in a hostile environment
• Certified and experienced in Basic and Advanced Life Support, First Aid and Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support, or equivalent
• Previous instructional experience and good understanding of structured training and capacity building, ideally holding a current instructor qualification
• Previous work experience abroad as medical lead/staff with UN or NGOs, preferably in the Humanitarian Mine Action field
• Experienced in working within hostile environment safety and security restrictions
• Hostile environment awareness trained within the last two years or equivalent training and experience
• Work experience in field locations with limited logistical support
• Strong leadership, team building and communication skills
• Flexibility and cultural awareness and sensitivity
• Computer literacy essential including proficiency in Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Knowledge of Kurdish or Arabic would be advantageous

The Medical Coordinator will have the following main responsibilities:

• Provide technical input to the Operations Manager to update country specific Medical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as and when needed
• Comply fully with DCA Medical and First Aid SOPs
• Provide technical medical oversight of relevant field operations over the components for which he/she is responsible, including training, daily operational planning and implementation, and the direction and discipline of locally employed medical staff
• Provide Medical assistance in the field on all DCA survey and clearance tasks in line with the current DCA Medical and First Aid SOPs.
• Source, order and maintain all Medical equipment and supplies in order to support DCA offices, teams and operations
• Perform surveys of clinical and medical facilities in DCA locations and foster relations with medical staff and possible evacuation assets
• Prepare and implement a training management plan that serves all DCA staff in line with DCA Medical and First Aid SOPs. Provide theoretical and practical training on a regular basis
• Conduct training/briefing of managerial staff where their tasks may require understanding of medical technical policies and procedures
• Conduct basic life support training to national staff from local partner organizations
• Keep updated on all current methodologies and approaches relevant to humanitarian mine action
• Prepare all relevant reports and documentation in line with DCA Medical and First Aid SOPs
