Medic/Safety Coordinator

Location: Whitehorse, YT Canada

Closing Date: June 30, 2018

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for carrying out a wide range of health and safety activities including providing emergency first aid and support to the site emergency response team, maintaining emergency response and safety equipment, investigating accidents and incidents, compiling statistics, monitor and support related to return to work plans, conduct safety training and orientation of new employees, contractors and visitors. Conducts workplace inspections and behaviour observation in efforts to provide support to safety prevention initiatives.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Provide emergency first aid services and arrange transport of critically injured or sick personnel
• Awareness of and compliance to the Company’s Performance Management Standards
• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to, be aware of and sponsor the Company’s safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Ensure accountability of Company’s Environmental, Health, Safety, Sustainability policies and procedures
• Support the site Emergency Response Plan
• Support the Emergency Response Team during training and in event of emergency
• Inspection and maintenance of safety and emergency response equipment and facilities
• Provide assistance to all line and staff departments on safety and emergency response matters
• Coordinate and administer safety training for site personnel
• Coordinate investigation of incidents and accidents and follow up on corrective actions
• Participate in matters related to the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee
• Maintain statistical information and filing system of critical documents and records in both written and electronic format
• Maintain medical and safety related inventories
• Inspect and maintain site fire suppression systems
• Conduct safety orientation for new employees, visitors and contractors
• Participate in the wildlife control program
• Other duties as assigned


The Ideal Candidate:
Academic/Education Requirements:
• Post-secondary education combined with an advanced first aid certification of a minimum 2 week duration
• Mine rescue certification or equivalent (fire rescue)
• Minimum; Advanced first aid /OFA 3 First Aid or equivalent. Preferred Licensed PCP or EMR

Required Skills/Experience:
• Yukon - First Line Supervisor maintain ticket or ability to obtain ticket
• 5+ plus years of extensive industrial first aid or paramedic experience.
• 2+ years of mining or heavy industrial experience is required
• 2+ years mine rescue or emergency response team experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Organized, adaptable and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Maintain Driver’s Licence


Working Conditions:
This position involves working at a remote mine site. Prolonged periods of time at a desk working at a computer may be required. There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects
