Firefighter - EMS

Job Description

Drives and operates emergency response ambulance. Chooses appropriate route to the fire scene and properly approaches and positions vehicle. Work also involves rescue activities, including providing basic life support and performance of medical duties usually under close supervision of a paramedic or medical officer. Administers first aid to injured persons; Takes vital signs and stabilizes patient; Collects pertinent information for patient assessment, including the patient's medical history; Conducts assessment for treatment of a patient with trauma-induced injuries; Provides hospital transport for injured. May be assigned to lead the work of others, direct persons during large scale emergency situations, and provide guidance and assistance to victims of emergencies. Performs and documents first echelon vehicle and equipment inspection and maintenance on assigned equipment, personal protective clothing and facilities to ensure constant operational readiness. Serves as an emergency dispatcher/operator as directed. 

- Must have a current State and/or National Register Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification and able to maintain registry
- Must have current American Heart Association CPR
- Must be compliant with NFPA 1582 standards for physical fitness
- All certifications must have minimum 6 months validity on them
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Must possess a secret-level security clearance
- The following International Fire Services Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (Pro-Board)
certifications:
-- Firefighter I & II, Airport Firefighter, Hazardous Materials and Operations, Driver Operator Pumper, Driver Operator Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting
(ARFF), Driver Operator Mobile Water Supply, Confined Space Technician, Rope Rescue and Telecommunicator I & II
- Current State and/or NREMT registered Advanced EMT or Paramedic and able to maintain registry
- Certification in American Heart Association ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advance Life Support)
- Certification in NAEMS (National Association of EMS) for PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support) (“Or the Equivalent”) AMLS (Advance Medical Life
Support)
- All certifications must have minimum 6 months validity on them
- Prior Military and/or Contingency Operations experience
- Certification in National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses: ICS-100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
As directed by management, may supervise employees or subcontractor personnel in accordance with
the “General Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities” addendum.
Position may be located in a war zone in a contingency environment with harsh, dangerous working and living conditions, which may include carrying and wearing required personal protective equipment for extended periods of time.
To ensure compliance with safety, health and security requirements in the contract, employees will be literate in English (read, write, speak and understand).
Must possess the ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language at the intermediate level as necessary to perform assigned job functions.
Requires the job knowledge, skill level and physical ability necessary to perform assigned job functions.

Position may be located in a war zone in a contingency environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions, including lifting and carrying 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time. To ensure safety, health, and security measures within the contract are met, all employees shall be literate in English (read, write, speak and understand).

Living conditions on the project are most likely austere. The most austere sleeping may be in environmentally conditioned tents on “Army type” cots. Restrooms and showers may be 250 feet or further from sleeping quarters. Laundry service for 15 pounds twice per week is commonly provided. Meals are provided at regular intervals in cafeteria or “dining facility” style environment. Living area will most likely have constant hum of generators or similar equipment nearby.

Basic Job Requirements

Provides firefighting services to minimize loss of life and property in the event of fire. Controls and extinguishes fires. May drive vehicle to scene of fire following predetermined route, or selecting alternate route when necessary. Operates pumps, foam generators, boom and ground sweeps nozzles, and other similar equipment. Uses a variety of special protective gear in situations where poisonous gases, radioactive materials, and hazardous biological products are involved. Performs daily preventive maintenance such as oil changes, replacing packing in pumps, and draining and flushing tanks, and
otherwise ensuring that all equipment is maintained in good working condition and ready for use. Ensure the safety of all firefighters by following proper procedures.

High school diploma / GED equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and four (4) years to seven (7) years related experience. Requires the job knowledge, skill level and physical ability necessary to perform assigned job functions.


Preferred Qualifications

Prior Military and/or Contingency Operations experience preferred.
