Summary
Provides Basic Life Support emergency treatment and transportation to preserve the life and health of patients. Participates in the operation and maintenance of the Ambulance Services.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1.Responds to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill andinjured, and transports the patient to KFSH&RC-Department of Emergency Medicine and from theDepartment of Emergency Medicine and the hospital to the patient's residence.
2.Administer emergency medical treatment both on the scene and in transit utilizing a variety of emergency and medical equipment under the direction and guidance of the KFSH&RC Department's Protocol and Policies. Assist in the Emergency Department when a code has been declared.
3.Monitor and maintain ambulance and equipment to ensure proper working order and inventory of supplies. Report any needs for replacement equipment or supplies to supervisor
4.Provide patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements.
5.Maintains response readiness consistent with KFSH&RC Department of Ambulance Services'response criteria.
6.Assesses the extent of injury and gives all possible emergency care and protection to the entrapped patient and uses the prescribed techniques and appliances for safely removing the patient where he must be extricated from entrapment or helped out of his vehicle to enter DEM. After extrication, provides additional care in triaging the injured in accordance with standard emergency procedures.
7. Demonstrates and ensures knowledge, understanding and compliance of the Ambulance Services policies and procedures.
8. Functions as trainer or preceptor as necessary.
9. Participates in projects and assignments as applicable.
Education
Completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) two (2) years program leading to certification as an Emergency Medical Technician. EMT Licensure from country of origin. BLS and PHTLS.
Experience Required
For Grade 7: Two (2) years’ experience as an Emergency Medical Technician.
For Grade 8: Four (4) years as EMT at KFSH&RC; Average evaluation for the last (4) years 4.3; Fifty (50) CME hours minimum.
