Nurse (Individual Contractor)

Location: South Sudan

Under the direct supervision of the Sector Administrative Officer, Gok Machar, and the additional supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, the incumbent will provide routine and specialized nursing services to all UN medical clients in Gok Machar. They will be called upon to handle medical administrative duties as well as performing basic pharmaceutical roles.

The specific responsibilities of the position are as follows:


Reception and documentation of patients, filing and maintenance of medical documents with due regard to the confidentiality of patient records;


Perform nursing duties, including and not limited to observation and monitoring of patients as well as physical examinations duties;


Is responsible for dispensing medications and, where necessary, will consult with the medical team in UNOE Level 1 clinic in Abyei, including but not limited to administering oral medications and intramuscular injections


Is responsible for conducting minor nursing procedures including but not limited to wound cleaning, debridement and dressings;


Schedule medical appointments and routine medical examinations for staff as guided by the medical team in AByei;


Offers nursing care guidance and advice to patients and assistance during emergencies, where appropriate and as guided by the medical team in Abyei;


Offers nursing care guidance and advice to patients and assistance, especially during emergencies, where appropriate and as will be guided by the medical team in AByei;


Stabilize patients, initiate and conduct casualty evacuation (casevac) or medical evacuation (medevac) as appropriate;


Compiles requests for re-supplies of drugs, consumables and supplies for the clinic under the guidance of the Head Nurse and the medical team in Abyei;


Compile medical returns upon request as well as the monthly medical report by diagnosis and per capita for and submitted to the Chief Medical Officer


Perform general upkeep and tidiness duties of the medical clinic offices on a daily basis;


Perform any other duties as shall be assigned by the Head Nurse and/or Chief Medical Officer.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

Registered Nurse who is a graduate of either an accelerated Baccalaureate Nursing Programme or an accredited Diploma Programme.

Experience

A minimum of 5 years of progressive clinical experience in nursing. Experience in a UN mission or large international organization is an asset

Language

Fluency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of Amharic is highly desirable.

Full proficiency in the use of computers and MS Office applications and other office technology equipment.

Remuneration

Payments will made monthly, on the basis of actual days worked and certification of satisfactory progress in the completion of the agreed deliverables. The rate of remuneration shall be determined using the approved United Nations payment schedules and guidelines on payment of consultants, and shall be determined on the basis of the functions to be performed and the professional experience of the selected individual. No advance payment is permissible unless in exceptional circumstances.

All travel related to the contract will be arranged by UN, at the most economical fare. Payment of a per diem at the set UN daily subsistence allowance (DSA) rates for the indicated duty station(s) will be applicable for subsistence and accommodation requirements.

The selected candidate will be fully governed by and subject to the United Nations General Terms and Conditions for Consultants and Individual Contractors.
