Could you contribute to a leadership team that develops safeguarding and professional social services for frail older persons and the disabled?

A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK, poised for transformation with the construction of an airport due to be operational in early 2016.

As you take on the management of the Older Persons’ Service, leading staff and service delivery, you will ensure an integrated social care approach respectful of individual health needs. You will also maintain a focus on ability, effective systems and high standards of care, encouraging independence at home or in sheltered accommodation in the community and within the residential care home.

Working closely with Health and other Directorates to establish and improve the range of services available in residential care, you will identify and develop service improvements. It will require you to take day to day management responsibility for the Community Care Centre (CCC) and delivery of all Older Persons’ Services. Providing clinical guidance to the Head of Care around nursing for older people and overseeing assessments of admissions, you will be responsible for the Sheltered Accommodation Units and associated services and for monitoring the budget.

University qualified or equivalent in Nursing at a minimum UK Nursing Diploma level, you must have significant management experience in a residential care setting. You will have an extensive background in the management of support for frail older persons. You must also have experience in developing staff to enhance the skills of care workers and reviewing care provision according to quality standards, plus experience of leadership around adult safeguarding matters. Experience and/or qualifications relevant to care for people with Dementia is also required.
