Duties & Responsibilities
The Paramedic is responsible for providing 24/7 advanced life support level medical response and coverage for the Pogo Mine site. Provide rapid intervention and scene management of medical emergencies.* Provide routine, urgent and emergency medical care in accordance with Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) standing orders and direct orders from online medical direction. *Provides leadership, delegation and direction of volunteer EMS team during emergency medical responses. *Coordinate evacuation of urgent and emergent patients via ground or fixed wing ambulance. *Transport patients off-site via ground ambulance as needed. *Coordinate access of off-site medical care and personal medications procurement for non-emergent patients as needed. *Maintain open hours of Medical Aid Station during shift changes for employee access. *Perform routine daily and weekly checks of all medical equipment, medical supplies and medication. *Ensure that all durable medical equipment is operable and maintained appropriately. *Ensure that all controlled drug logs are accurate and up to date in accordance with the Controlled Substance Policy. *Maintain patient confidentiality with all documentation and communication in accordance with HIPAA regulations. *Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records of all patients seen and treated on site. *Make timely notification of all employee illnesses and injuries to appropriate supervision and human resources.*Provide case management of all work related illnesses and injuries in coordination with supervision, HR and Safety. *Provide emotional support to employees in the event of tragic and/or traumatic situations. *Perform routine checks and restocking of site-wide first aid cabinets. *Maintain placement, operation and training of personnel on all site-wide AED units. *Deliver bi-weekly First Aid and Safety portions of MSHA initial/refresher training. *Deliver MSHA onsite Hazard Training as needed. *Perform post-incident, random, reasonable suspicion and pre-hire drug screening as necessary. *Maintain all required provider licenses and certifications through continuing forms of medical education. *Remain up to date on new medical, health and safety developments through continuing forms of education. *Performs other duties as assigned. EKG monitor/defibrillator, blood pressure cuff and stethoscope, basic life support (BLS) and advanced life support (ALS)medical devices and supplies, breath alcohol analyzer, urine-collection drug test kits, portable hand-held and multi-channel base-station radios, quantitative respiratory fit test instrument, audiometer, negative pressure respirator, satellite phone, oxygen delivery systems, network-based computer, telephone and voice-mail systems, operation of general purpose and emergency response vehicles, truck, ambulance, etc.; use of standard office equipment to include copier, fax, scanner and shredder.
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
A rotation schedule consisting of two weeks working and two weeks off at a remote campsite. Required to be response ready 24 hours a day to provide medical care and transport of patients to definitive level medical care up to 4 hours away by ground. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
CERTIFICATES, LICENCES AND REGISTRATIONS: Required: valid Driver's license is required. Valid State of Alaska MICP license, current Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications. Preferred: Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support or International Trauma Life Support Certification. Nationally Registry EMS Certification. Current MSHA certificate.
EXPERIENCE: Required: Five or more years of experience providing ALS level emergency medical care in a high volume EMS system. Experience delegating lower level EMS personnel in the emergency care setting. Preferred: Two or more years of experience in the critical care setting as a flight paramedic or critical care transport paramedic. Two or more years working in a remote industrial setting. Experience conducting Respiratory Fit Tests. Experience conducting audiometry testing.
SKILLS: Applicant must be able to work independently with little direct supervision. Applicant should possess exceptional clinical judgment as necessary to make critical patient care decisions regarding medical care and transport under the conditions of remote location, extreme weather conditions and extended transport times, while balancing the medical coverage needs of the mine site with the needs of the patient. Effective written, verbal, and communication skills are needed to satisfy the effective delivery of the training and safety messages/policies of the company. Demonstrated computer skills in Windows environment with experience in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Should have critical thinking skills and problem solving skills. Strong planning and organizational skills.

Proven ability to read, comprehend, and apply information from technical manuals and other reference materials. KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of MSHA Yellow Jacket standards and regulations. Operational knowledge of all above referenced equipment, office equipment and machines (I.e. phone, fax, copier, 10-key).
TOTAL COMPENSATION
Accommodations: Requires staying at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, game room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and dorm room having phone, internet & cable tv.
Transportation: The company provides bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction or Tok.
