Principal Accountabilities
- Develop training programs to ensure that the best qualified personnel are available for missions.
- Act as the liaison between the TOC, Ground Team and Medical Facilities.
- Fly Medevac missions and maintain personal certifications.
- Develop local Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Flight Medic Operations.
- Develop training programs to ensure that the best qualified personnel are available for missions.
- Assist in the development of plans and standard operating procedures to support the MEDEVAC program.
- Maintain records of medical certifications to determine the status of personnel available for missions.
- Coordinate disaster preparedness evaluations, training missions, and exercises.
- Responsible for the implementation of the medical action plans specified by the Medical Director.
- Ensure any new, changes and/or updates to SOPs, policies, procedures, forms and techniques are created/updated and disseminated to all locations and medics.
- Coordinate and supervise activities for continuing education utilizing appropriate Clinical Practice Guidelines and Protocols.
- Responsible for quality assurance and quality improvement programs and initiatives for process improvement.
- Determine operational and logistical needs.
- Ensure that all personnel are kept informed of status changes.
- Manages medical training activities of the organizational flight medics to ensure effective efficiencies in compliance with medical protocols and legal requirements.
- Develops training POIs.
- Perform other qualified duties as assigned.
- Extensive personnel management and instructor skills.
- In-depth knowledge of life-saving Medical procedures.
- Knowledge of advanced cardiology, to include operation of Defibrillator equipment, accurate reading and diagnosis of cardiac strips, and ACLS algorithms with appropriate drug treatment protocol.
- Fundamental knowledge of basic communications procedures and equipment.
- Knowledgeable of Advanced Trauma Care, to include immediate assessment and treatment of any traumatic life threatening injury, advanced airway management (Intubations, Surgical Cricothyrotomy), advanced invasive procedures (Needle Decompression, Chest Tube Thoracotomy), advanced Circulatory support.
- Knowledge of general sick call procedures.
- Possess a FAA Class III Medical Certificate
- Able to foster trust, cooperation and communication in order to improve patient care, safety and mission success.
- Able to demonstrate proficiency with required weapons system and safe weapons handling procedures.
- Working knowledge of FOL sanitary requirements to maintain a healthy working environment.
- Knowledge of body recovery procedures.
- Emergency Medical Technicians‐ Paramedic (NREMT‐P) with qualification as Flight Paramedic preferred.
- Have a general knowledge of radiological (basic) analysis.
- Have knowledge of material inventory principles.
- Inventory management skill is required.
- All employees must receive immunizations appropriate to the theater of operations prior to employment.
- Possess a current US Passport or the ability to obtain one before assignment.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance is a condition of continued employment; an active DoD Secret Security Clearance is preferred.
- Five (5) or more years’ experience in the medical field as a Critical Care Paramedic.
- Minimum one (1) year in a Training Medic position.
- Flight Paramedic Certified (FP-C) or Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Program (CCEMTP) Certification. Certification must be current with all applicable education/recertification requirements completed
- Critical Care Paramedic certified.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified.
- Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS or ITLS), or Pre‐hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certified
- Extensive experience required in dealing with lifesaving procedures with an emphasis on Tactical Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine as an Advanced Tactical Practitioner.
- Extensive experience conducting routine and emergency lifesaving treatment in an austere environment is required.
- Extensive experience in providing unsupported lifesaving care to a patient for up to 48 hours is desired.
- Exposure to Flight Medical operations in a high-threat environment is desired.
- Extensive experience desired in the following areas: working with established medical systems, medical planning, operations and intelligence.
- Experience in conducting base camp health/hygiene surveys is required.
- Experience in conducting hospital medical surveys in developing countries/regions is required.
- Extensive experience in assessing OCONUS regional/local medical treatment capability is required.
- Experience in developing/implementing MEDEVAC plans and procedures are required.
- Extensive experience as a trainer/instructor of medical-related topics is required.
- Exposure to Search & Rescue operations in a high-threat environment is desired.
- Associate’s degree majoring in trauma management, first responder procedures, combat medicine or other related area of study is preferred.
- Must attend and successfully complete weapons qualification, security training, psychological profiling and High Threat - Survival Escape and Evasion training prior to deployment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Assignment may be in a foreign country that entails working in a high threat environment.
- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.
- Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders and work stands.
- Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
- May be required to carry, push or pull up to and may exceed 50 pounds.
- May be required to lift up to 50 pounds to height of four feet and be required to lift up to 35 pounds to height of 7 feet.
- May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
- Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications.
- Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
- Must be able to read and interpret newspaper and typewritten print.
- Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sounds by ear over telephone.
- Must be able to distinguish color and judge three dimensional depths.
- May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
- Must have minimum 20/100 near and far vision, correctable to 20/20.
- Must be able to travel to and between remote locations in austere and/or hostile environments.
- Must be capable of living and working in a potentially hostile environment for an extended period.
- May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
- May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
- Must be able to travel to and between remote locations in austere and/or hostile environments.
