Barrick is headquartered in Toronto, Canada and has 27 mining operations with many advanced exploration projects located across 5 continents and a large number of tenements located on some of the most prolific and prospective mineral trends. Ten of Barrick’s mining operations are found within the Australia Pacific region, with its regional head office located in Perth, Western Australia.
Position Objective
Reporting to the OHS Superintendent, the OHS Advisor/ Medic will assist the Senior OHS Advisor and OHS Superintendent to deliver medical aid and OHS advice as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness, and comply with all relevant policies and procedures
Carry out inductions and orientation of new employees and contractors
Enter individuals’ competencies and licenses into competency database and provide reports as required
Deliver safety training in liaison with the OHS team, both through programme delivery and on-the-job observation and instruction.
Promote health and safety work practices with peers, contractors and suppliers
Deliver technical and behavioural competency development programmes
Participate in teams to conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses and assist in compiling safe work procedures
Participate in the development and review of formal working procedures, and ensure that improvements are captured and changes made to controlled documents
Conduct regular workplace inspections, task observation and audits and report on findings with a focus on preventive training needs identification
Assist leaders in preparing presentations to employees on safety issues, current statistics and ongoing safety management programmes
Ensure effective communication of Health and Safety related issues to senior members of the department
Undertake additional / alternative responsibilities as reasonably requested the OHS Superintendent
To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:
Appropriate medical qualifications in Nursing / Paramedic
Certificate in OHS IV
Certificate IV Assessment and Workplace Training
Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence
St Johns Senior First Aid certificate desirable
Demonstrated experience in competency based training and assessment
Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas
Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spread sheet applications
Ability to communicate effectively across all levels
Strong report writing and presentation skills
Demonstrate ability and willingness to be an active team member in a high paced environment
The position is fly in/fly out from Perth on an 8/6 roster.
Excellent on-site accommodation is provided. Recreational facilities include Foxtel, a swimming pool, tennis and squash courts and a gymnasium. WiFi is available through the camp and Telstra next G mobile coverage is also available.
This position offers a competitive salary package in line with qualifications and experience. Standard benefits include 9% superannuation, premium private health cover for the whole family, salary continuance scheme, salary packaging options and 20 days annual leave per year.
