What we do
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose
The Health Unit is looking for someone to develop thematic files, and to support planning and organizations of workshops in the field of Prehospital Emergency Care & First Aid.

The Health Unit works towards further development and strengthening of people and organisations involved in emergency preparedness and response, especially in sensitive and insecure contexts, often with limited resources. The objective is to ensure that casualties, in time of emergencies, benefit from a timely, humane and effective emergency care and if needed are referred up to appropriate level of care. Prehospital Emergency Care & First Aid is not limited to a set of gestures or training courses. It has much broader perspectives, including operational issues and human multi-dimensional values.

Functions and responsabilities
Supports Prehospital Emergency Care & First Aid field projects from the ICRC HQ.
Follows up of initiatives, studies, innovations and trends to implement lessons learns in other contexts (for example Mass Casualty Management or Triage).
Organizes workshops and seminars for National Red Cross or Red Crescent Societies and other stakeholder (logistics and administration).
Participates in the development of thematic internal and external communication and network.
When needed, supports emergency operations.

Your qualifications
University degree for example in medicine, nursing (with emergency specialty), paramedic science (not EMT) or humanitarian aid (with a strong emergency health background).

Your profile
Good understanding of the health and prehospital emergency care systems.
Knowledge on First Aid education.
Knowledge in the field of disaster management and/or humanitarian aid.
Very good command of computer tools (Windows 8, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
Familiar with new technologies, social media, Apps and other networking platforms.
Good English verbal and written communication skills.
Flexible, communicative, and open-minded to cultural diversities and challenges.
Strong strategic and creative thinking.
Team player, very organized and result-oriented.
Strong motivation to work in humanitarian intervention, and to the enhancement of Prehospital emergency care & First Aid.
Sense of responsibility and ability to work autonomously.
Maximum one year work experience (2 years if it is supplemented with traineeships).

Your assets
Experience in emergency response, voluntary work.
Additional language skills (French, Arabic and Spanish).
Previous experience within the International Red Cross and Red Cross Movement, especially with regards to emergency preparedness and response.
