Medical Advisor

We are a Belgian NGO specialized in the fight against leprosy, tuberculosis and leishmaniasis in Africa, Asia, Latin-America and Belgium, is looking for a Medical Advisor for its headquarters in Brussels to strengthen the medical team and to prepare the challenges ahead.

Responsabilities
You are responsible for strengthening and promoting sustainable leprosy, tuberculosis and leishmaniasis prevention and control programs and projects in different partner countries.

More specifically, you are responsible for:
supporting and evaluating the medical and technical aspects of the entrusted projects, including planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and follow-up activities;
providing clinical, epidemiological and public health mentoring, support, training and coaching of local medical teams;
promoting and improving access to equitable patient centred-care through a public health approach;
ensuring effective partnership to enhance synergies and complementarities between Damien Foundation projects and different actors involved in leprosy, tuberculosis and leishmaniasis control;
promoting services in line with international standards of care and promoting social protection schemes for people affected by leprosy, tuberculosis and other poverty-related diseases;
promoting, identifying, organizing, implementing and/or participating in operational research, related to leprosy, tuberculosis and related neglected poverty-related diseases;
formulating policies, regulations and technical guidelines related to leprosy and tuberculosis control.

Requirements
You have a Medical Doctor degree and you can rely on clinical knowledge of leprosy and tuberculosis (including multi-resistant tuberculosis).
You have at least a five-year experience abroad in the medical field with an international NGO within the context of development cooperation.
You have a MPH degree in infectious disease control and/or you have an extensive professional experience of the strategies for prevention and control of leprosy, tuberculosis or other infectious diseases, especially neglected tropical diseases.
You have experience in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating disease prevention and control activities, in resource-constrained settings such as low and middle-income countries.
You are well aware of the social aspects of poverty-related diseases as well as the issue of disability.
You are able to work flexibly, collaboratively and effectively in an international multidisciplinary team to accomplish program and project goals.
You have an analytical and critical thinking mindset. Having a practical experience in epidemiological and clinical research as well as scientific writing is an asset.
You are willing to travel abroad for the follow-up of the projects and for participating in meetings, seminars and conferences.
You have excellent written and oral skills in French and English. A good knowledge of Spanish and Dutch is an asset.
