Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant

Position Summary

Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant (PA) position will be ANCP or NCCPA Certified. He/she will perform under the responsibility and supervision of a physician and will be responsible for delivering appropriate diagnoses and quality treatment to authorized health care beneficiaries. He/She will serve as a primary care provider, clinical advisor for primary and other health care providers. Further, serves as a consultant and advisor on boards and committees; in conferences and other activities involving health care at the Troop Medical Clinic (TMC).

He/She will be credentialed according to the medical staff regulations of the clinic in which they work and will be under the supervision of an appropriately credentialed attending physician.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

• Performs evaluation and problem identification of patients
• Performs history and physical examination of patients
• Writes prescriptions, orders and interprets laboratory data and radiological tests
• Monitors patient status and response to treatments
• Documents findings in the medical record
• Recommends appropriate therapeutic interventions
• Interacts with consultants as appropriate
• Provides education and counseling for patients. Directs patient and/or family to agencies dealing with
specific illnesses/diseases
• Orders appropriate therapeutic interventions
• Performs procedures for which practitioner is credentialed as dictated by patient need
• Interacts with nursing and technologist staff
• Participates in Departmental quality assurance, risk management, and compliance efforts

Requirements Qualifications

Education
PA: A master’s degree as physician assistant and completion of an approved course of study as a physician assistant. Current NCCPA certification and active state PA licensure is required or as specified by the contract. All providers must maintain BLS certification throughout the period of their employment

NP: A master’s degree in nursing and completion of an approved course of study as a nurse
practitioner. Current ANCP certification and active state NP licensure required or as specified per the contract

Experience Three to five years of responsible experience directly applicable to supervisor’s functional areas is necessary. Supervisory experience is desirable. Facility in oral and written expression and administrative capacity is necessary.

Competencies Ability to do math calculations, input data into the computer, and analyze data as requested. Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. Must be able to follow and understand instructions, and react favorably in all work situations. Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people. Some previous ED experience is recommended. Excellent communication skills required
