Position Summary:
Provides Advanced Life Support including medical evaluation, treatment and stabilization of the critically ill and injured; responds to emergency rescue situations involving potential loss of life or bodily injury; maintains control, manages and directs patient care at the scene of a pre-hospital emergency; provides training and instruction to lesser trained personnel; performs other duties as required. Applies artificial respiration or administers oxygen in cases of suffocation and asphyxiation, starts and administers intravenous fluids, and performs other emergency medical procedures during transport. Must be NREMT-P, ACLS and CPR certified. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Maintains vehicles, equipment, tools, and protective clothing in a serviceable ready-response condition.
2. Responds to emergencies as required. Administers medical services for patient care within the scope of their training.
3. Protect and preserves evidence.
4. Conducts recurrent proficiency training and OJT.
5. Instructs base populous in regards to medical classes.
6. Performs other duties as assigned by the Paramedic Lead or Paramedic Supervisor.

Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent is required; Associates/Bachelors is preferred

Experience:
Requires registration at an EMT-P level with the National Registry. Must be ACLS and CPR certified.

Supervision Received:
Reports directly to the Paramedic Lead, however may receive instruction from the Paramedic Supervisor as needed; functions as a member of the Fire and Emergency Services Department.

Supervision Exercised:
None

Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods of time. Requires manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard, calculator, copier machine, and other equipment.

Lift and carry a minimum of 45 lb and be able to collectively lift, carry, and balance patients who weigh in excess of 100lbs. Pull and reach with both hands, crawl, kneel, bend and climb, work outdoors in excessive heat or cold, high humidity or dry atmospheric conditions, equipment and knowledge necessary to protect against excessive noise, dust, fumes, smoke, or chemicals. Equipment and knowledge necessary to protect oneself against radiation and infectious diseases. Knowledge necessary to work around machinery with moving parts.

Material and Equipment Directly Used:
Operates specialized vehicles/equipment.

Typical Mental Demands:
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. Must be able to follow and understand instructions, and react favorably in all work situations. Must have strong interpersonal skills and be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people at various levels within and outside the MFA.
