General Dynamics Mission Systems-UK is recruiting an Occupational Health Nurse on a permanent basis. This is a part time position (15 hours per week).

PURPOSE OF POSITION
As a member of the occupational health team you will be required to provide occupational health services within the scope of nursing including case management, legislated medical surveillance programs and, health screening and nursing clinic support services for all employees, having freedom to act within the policies and practices of the company.

You will apply specialist knowledge and skills to undertake clinical service and other varied responsibilities of the post.

RESPONSIBILITIES
These include:
• Provide case management services for employees with occupational or non-occupational illnesses or injuries ensuring a timely and medically appropriate return to work
• Set up and manage an occupational physician contract for consultant services as required
• Health surveillance programmes including Audiometry, Skin Tests, Vision Screening etc.
• Screening Programmes for employees including Drivers medicals, Drug and alcohol abuse etc.
• Employment Health Assessments including New Starter medicals
• Provide clinic services for employees to assess counsel or refer to outside agencies for further help or assessment
• To assist in the updating and maintenance of the occupational health recording system including the recording of clinical outcomes and observations, case management, pre-employment questionnaires, health surveillance screening, vaccinators, tests or research results
• To demonstrate IT skills to enable access to relevant information. i.e. management, clinical, and external and create relevant reports
• To be responsible for the safe use and maintenance of equipment
• To work independently and as part of a team

• To create material for, run and present regular lunch & learns on key health topics
• To maintain effective communication with colleagues in the team, managers, clients and external agencies to ensure seamless service delivery
• To be responsible for the ordering and maintaining of stock supplies to ensure safe storage, preparation and administration of vaccines in accordance with department processes, policies and national guidance
• To maintain client confidentiality and work within the framework of the Data Protection Act
• Promote and maintain appropriate occupational and seasonal vaccination programmes
• Liaise with the Human Resources Department and the Health & Safety Department on a regular basis and attend monthly meetings

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Essential

• Registered General Nurse, holding a post registration qualification in Occupational Health at Certificate Diploma or Degree level
• Experience in working in an Occupational health setting
• Experience of working independently
• Experience of working in an manufacturing/engineering and office facility
• Strong case management skills
• Excellent planning, verbal and written communication, organisation skills are essential to prioritise and manage a flexible workload
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
• Evidence of continuing professional development
• Excellent communication skills
• Administration and IT skills - Word, Excel, Outlook
• Holds a driving licence or be able to travel between sites
• Driven to achieve
• Self motivated
• Good time management
• Demonstrate interest and commitment to Occupational Health
• Flexible and adaptable to change
• Assertiveness
• Ability to motivate self and others
• Sensitive to clients needs

Desirable
• NEBOSH certificate
• Recognised OH Nursing qualification
• Considerable experience in Working in industry as an OHA.
• Skills in performing specific health surveillance relevant to OH
• Working within a Health & Safety environment
