Emergency Dispatcher - EMS

Job Description 

Primary responsibilities are to requests received from 9-1-1 centers, EMS field staff, first responder agencies and the public for pre-hospital Emergency Medical Services. Work involves the gathering of information related to medical emergencies, the provision of assistance and instructions by voice, prior to the arrival of emergency medical services, and the dispatching and support of EMS resources responding to an emergency call.

Position may be located in a war zone in a contingency environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions, including lifting and carrying 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time. To ensure safety, health, and security measures within the contract are met, all employees shall be literate in English (read, write, speak and understand).

Living conditions on the project are most likely austere. The most austere sleeping may be in environmentally conditioned tents on “Army type” cots. Restrooms and showers may be 250 feet or further from sleeping quarters. Laundry service for 15 pounds twice per week is commonly provided. Meals are provided at regular intervals in cafeteria or “dining facility” style environment. Living area will most likely have constant hum of generators or similar equipment nearby.

Basic Job Requirements 
- Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or four (4) years’ experience in 911 Communications Center. One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required;
- Must have the following International Fire Services Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (Pro-Board)

certifications: Emergency Services Telecommunication I, II; HazMat Awareness; a current CPR certification; certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch from Association of Public Communications;
- Certification in National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses ICS-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS-200 ICS for Single
Resources and Initial Action Incidents are desired.
- ****Security Clearance Required****
Other Job Requirements One year experience in a customer service environment. Experience with Fire, Medical and/or Police response highly desirable. Working knowledge of general communication center policies and procedures.

Ability to function as a team member within the department. General map knowledge of primary EMS coverage areas. Proficiency with call creation of emergency and non-emergency incidents. Ability to communicate effectively with multiple nationalities.
Preferred Qualifications - Previous experience with the US Government or US Military;
- Prior Military and/or Contingency Operations experience
