Emergency Response Nurse

Job Overview

In this temporary position, reporting to the senior occupational health nurse supervisor, health and wellness site services, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive clinical and emergency response care to on-site workers in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

Key Accountabilities

Accountable for all treatment room initiatives pertaining to all on-site employees, including initial and follow-up treatment, modified work, alcohol and drug (A/D) testing, education, health promotion, disease prevention, and health surveillance activities
Respond to medical related incidents as requested by the on-duty emergency coordinator
Practice under our medical procedures/protocols as approved by the medical director
Assess and treat all employees who require medical attention
Document all treatment room activities
Maintain appropriate personal protective equipment, respiratory protective equipment and emergency response training
Communicate applicable information to appropriate personnel/resources in a timely manner
Ensure treatment room activities support occupational health and safety, while adhering to all applicable legislation

Support treatment room operations by providing input and implementing operational changes
Provide technical and administrative support through project assignments and proposals.


Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

Previous experience in an industrial, emergency and/or critical care setting is preferred and experience with health surveillance testing and programs is an asset
Registered nurse with current College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) registration
Advanced first aid course (i.e. ITLS, CPR level C) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Audiometry and spirometry certification
Breath alcohol technician certification
Drug urine screening and point of collection testing (POCT) certification
Bachelor’s degree is an asset


Skills and Knowledge:

Technical knowledge of health and wellness programs, standards and processes, including disability case management, return to work programs, medical surveillance and wellness programs
Technical knowledge of Medgate GX2 and Microsoft Office suite
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
You collaborate with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same


Working Conditions

This is a temporary position for a period of 12 months
The shift schedule is a six days on/six days off rotation (three days on, three nights on, six days off; 12 hour shifts)
You will spend the majority of your time in the First Aid Treatment centre/clinic but will also respond to medical incidents in the field and work in the back of the Medic providing emergency medical care during transports.

If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
