Remote Physician Assistant

Location: Remote Alaska

Summary:

Perform a broad scope of patient evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment in remote settings under the supervision of collaborative physician by remote communications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs a history and physical examination pertaining to the patients presenting complaint
• Reviews patient records to determine health status
• Makes assessments based on record and examination
• Records and presents information to supervising physician for final diagnosis and treatment as needed
• Orders appropriate laboratory and x-ray studies
• Communicate with receiving facility, Alaska MEDEVAC systems, and Medical Control
• Monitor and maintain the general condition of the unit/clinic; keep it clean and re-supply any deficiencies
• Prepare accurate, thorough documentation of every patient contact and patient care reportaccurate documentation of every patient contact, and fully complete reports
• May refer patients to appropriate specialists for consultation
• Prescribes medication as indicated
• Instructs and councils patient or legal guardian regarding matters pertaining to the patients physical or mental health and the nature and treatment of their injury or illness and required follow up, in a courteous and cooperative manner
• May perform routine diagnostic, therapeutic, and invasive procedures
• Performs other duties as required to support the project

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Export knowledge of defibrillators and IV pumps
• Work well in teams, alone, and in diverse groups of people
• Manages medical emergencies with on-line or telephonic support
• Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with HSE Team Members and Operational Management Team
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently and complete objectives
• Understand and utilize pre-hospital care Emergency Medical Service equipment
• Understands the use of over the counter medications and aggressive first aid guidelines to support the Natural resources Industry OSHA requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
• Graduate of a Bachelors or Masters Degree program
• A minimum of 5 years remote medical health care experience
• Current State of Alaska Physician Assistant license
• Current CPR, ACLS, ATLS
• Certified by the NCCPA
• Ability to work jointly with pre-hospital care team

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift, carry, and balance an adult patient with the assistance of others
• Ability to run, walk, bend, and crawl on uneven terrain
• Ability to withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold, and moisture
• Ability to work in low light and confined spaces
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle (including ATVs)

Working Conditions:
• Two week rotations, 12 hours a day/7 days a week shifts, and on-call after hours
• Work in remote locations as an independent provider
• Must be willing to work overtime and be on-call while at the site as needed
• Must be willing to work weekends and holidays as needed
• May be required to fly in small aircrafts
• May be exposed to communicable diseases, mentally unstable, or combative patients
• Must be willing to take Weather Observation training for assignments as required
