Medic/ Emergency Services Officer

Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Karara operates an iron ore mine and associated infrastructure in the mid-west region of W.A.

The operation is designed for a +30 year mine life and production of 8Mtpa. It comprises a long life and world-class magnetite deposit; multiple hematite deposits; dedicated rail infrastructure; and an integrated train load-out/ship loading facility at our Geraldton port operations. Karara is breaking new ground with the development and ongoing operation of the first significant iron ore mine in the mid- west.


We require an experienced Medic/Emergency Services Officer (MESO) to join the team based at the Karara mine site. Working a FIFO 8:6 / 7:7 continuous roster. You will be responsible for co-ordinating and monitoring the implementation of the Karara site safety management system and its associated Occupational & Health and Safety obligations. Reporting to Emergency Management Superintendent, you will have frequent contact with staff and contractors at all levels and will be required to support the site Operations team.

Key responsibilities;
Respond to medical emergencies, injuries, sudden illness and casualties arising from a broad range of incidents
Undertake a thorough clinical assessment (in conjunction with the site registered nurse) of patients to identify illness or injury, plan and initiate appropriate patient management consistent with protocols and the medic scope of practice
Operate ambulance medical equipment and implement medical procedures to provide patient care and treatment in an out of the hospital environment
Record and store patient care records
Conduct ERT Training as per training schedule
Attend all emergency callouts
Conduct post incident debriefing
Perform training exercises using rescue equipment to up keep skills and familiarisation of its use
Develop and foster volunteer ERT membership across the site
Conduct onsite fitness for work (FFW) testing including drug & alcohol screening as required
Undertake the functions of access control and site security during night shift to ensure the safe and secure operations of the site
Assist the incumbent fire system maintenance provider in undertaking all required fire system testing and inspections
Assist management in budgeting for Medical and Emergency Response requirements

Key requirements;
3 years + experience as Medic ESO within the mining sector
Cert IV in training and assessment
Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue
Cert IV in Prehospital Care (Ambulance)
Drug & Alcohol collector competency
National police clearance
WA HR Licence
Demonstrated experience in managing and controlling responses and ERT members in a real emergency situation
Knowledge of current practices and techniques in Mine Emergency Response
Knowledge of current practices and techniques in Emergency Medical response and treatment
Up to date knowledge of Mining techniques and equipment
