Working on a Cruise ship as a Medical Professional gives you a unique opportunity to work in your chosen career, and travel the world all at the same time.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Medical Doctors work rotations that are 4 months on with 2 months off; the Doctors live onboard for the duration of the contract. On our ships, we generally have 800 to 1700 crew/ 2000 guests. Our medical centers are much like running the urgent care center for a small town - except the town is floating in the ocean.

Doctors have clinic hours in the morning and in the afternoon. When you are not on call, you are free to visit the different ports we travel to. The call schedule varies based on the needs of the ship. Onboard we have facilities for the crew such as a crew gym, there is internet access in the medical center and we have many crew activities onboard as well.

Functions of this job include, but are not limited to the following:
Providing medical services to all passengers and crew
Overseeing inventory of medical supplies and monitoring hospital budget, including the annual budgeting of the Medical Center’s consumable supplies and medications
Participating in inspections of the galley and food handling areas and providing expert assistance in regards to sanitation and compliance with USPH and CDC regulations

Requirements:

A minimum of 3 years clinical experience after completion of recognized post M.D. training program.
Medical Degree from a recognized College or University.
Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Renewal of ACLS every two years.
Practical experience in ACLS.
Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
Active, current medical license in good standing in Country or State/Province of origin.
Formal training and experience in at least one of the following: Emergency Medicine, General Practice, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, or General Surgery.

Required Abilities:

Ability to diagnose and treat a broad range of medical conditions.
Ability to perform minor surgery such as suturing, removal of benign skin lesions, removal of foreign objects, removal of ingrown toenails, identification of and immobilizing of simple fractures.
Fluent in the English language.
Be able to pass a comprehensive pre-employment physical examination and drug test.
